    So very disapointing

I travelled in by taxi the day after i watched this film, the taxi driver was raving about signs saying how wonderful he thought it was. I'm a fool, i should have taken the train. How could I even waste breath over how wrong he was! The reviews and trailers made this film to look like the alien sci fi flick of the decade, a winner, after all Mel does do good films! But no! The story starts to build up tension and fear but loses just as soon as it finds it. ET sent more fear up my spine than these aliens and the story just took a nose dive at the end. I'm so dispaointed for the director and cast, what could have been a box office hit, was a real flop... please, only consider watching this if you are being paid to do so or you have seen every film ever made ...twice.

    1 for effort

...and it was an effort to watch. Crap and totally unbelievable story line that seems like it was designed by committee. If you must watch it, I recommend you watch Scary Movie 3 first....will make this one much more........... well, you'll see!

    Scary

This is how to make a scary movie , forget about special effects, tell a simple story with decent actors. I can see why some people would not like this, but I loved it , if you liked Independance Day don't rent this , you will hate it.

    Different

Without giving away the plot I must say these aliens are not too scary they cannot even break down a door. This film shies away from the usual big budget E. T. films by concentrating on a single family. Good acting holds together a film that may be laughable otherwise and the film creates genuine tension. The story is quite well constructed and the aliens seem to be incidental to the plot ; they could just have been any intruder. A watchable human story but not a classic.

    Quite good

Thought this film was a little different.

Ending up quite enjoying. If you can get past the fact that Mel gibson plays a retired priest[totally unbelievable].Its not a bad movie.Mel's acting is a little on the wooden side...If you can completely forget that the gibson is in this movie its not to bad.

I think the alien out-shone old mel.

    Interesting Ideas, Doesn't quite Work

This film has it's fair share of creepy moments as the existence of the aliens and their purpose becomes apparent but does seem a bit overly sentimental and eventually borders on the ridiculous. It does have an interesting hero with tortured former man of god Gibson fighting with his own lack of faith and belief in signs, miracles and ultimately god. While well acted and genuinely scary at times I think this film fails in the end but I can see the thought behind the whole thing and for that reason I believe it's well worth a watch.

    Dissapointing slight thriller.

I’d been told that “Signs” was a major Spook-fest, but well... it isn’t. It’s a slight tale of catharsism and redemption through adversity as a widowed ex-priest turned farmer by Mel Gibson struggles with his faith after the death of his wife. This is told via an alien invasion so low key I was surprised they didn’t stammer “oh, I’m terribly sorry, but we’re going to have to colonise your planet……sorry!” In a way it’s a welcome small scale antidote to the jingoistic histrionics of “Independence Day” but it lacks dramatic impetus is too simplistic and I repeat is about as scary as tots t.v. A couple of scenes are quite effective in creating tension making good use of the cornfields and cavernous house but it’s never sustained and the ending is both silly and illogical. “Signs" is a lightweight dream of a movie; hardly the stuff of nightmares and its clumsy paean to the power of faith is like something from a poor episode of “Tales of the Unexpected”.

this film had me groaning all the way through

i quite liked sixth sense and was hoping for more of the same. however, from very early on i felt that this film was very poor. there was no tension whatsoever, the pace was too slow and the plot entirely predictable. i couldn't believe it could be so basic. i only watched the whole film as i felt surely there must be some brilliant twist about to happen. sadly not.

i felt EXTREMELY peeved afterwards that i'd wasted an evening i could have spent doing ANYTHING ELSE.

DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE WATCHING THIS FILM

such a long, slow drawnout film with practically no storyline. All actors appeared slightly comatose and had difficulty in remembering their lines. A very predictable ending as the reverend who lost his faith finds God again. It could have been told in 5 minutes. Not a film to watch once, let alone twice

    Signs

After the hype surrounding this movie, I had somewhat high expectations of 'Signs', but sadly my expectations weren't met! After 30 minutes into the film, I started to wonder where the plot had gone and when I was going to see some action! Maybe it's just my personal preference, but it was too much dialogue and not enough suspense for my liking.

Thankfully, things picked up just over halfway through and the pace started to get quicker, which was a relief! Along the way we learn a lot more about Graham and his family, and what their past involves. I felt Graham himself was quite a complex character, but we were able to understand his feelings and motives towards the end of the movie.

I'm glad the ending didn't leave me disappointed, in fact it leaves you feeling satisfied that you've gained a full understanding of the story, it's almost like the final piece of the jigsaw where everything comes together to form one big picture.

If you're expecting an alien movie, then be aware that they don't play as big a part as you might think, but if you're into sci-fi/psychological type movies then 'Signs' is for you.

this film is about a man's loss of faith against a backdrop of a global disaster. It was nothing as I imagined - and less of a 'hollywood blockbuster' than I thought. Mel Gibson is, as ever, an underrated actor, and his performance shows real depth and rawness - another example of truth in acting. The children were also well developed characters, and along with J. Pheonix, provided an excellent counterpoint to the emotional development of the main character. There were enough imaginative moments to make me jump. the only negative aspect was the inevitability of the storyline - but this was overshadowed by the quality of the acting and the odd moment of surprise. I would recommend this to any film watcher as it involves enough different genre to keep anyone satisfied.

    Very annoying.

I really hate movies where the characters act so stupid they make you want to throw something at the TV screen. Some of the things these people do - nobody would ever do in the real world.

Very poor story, some incredibly boring moments and a complete lack of intelligence in the script writing.

Maybe small town Americans are all that thick, makes you wonder....

Not to spoil the movie but a couple of quick questions

1 - You find an Alien locked in the larder. Bear in mind that you have already called the Police out to every minor incident you have seen. Do you...

    a) Go home, mention it only to your family.

    b) Call the police/Authorities. For some reason they might find it useful to have a captured Alien before the earth is invaded.

2 - Two adult males protecting two children. There are intruders attempting to get into the house. Do you....

    a) Stand in the middle of the hallway totally unarmed watching and waiting for them to break in and attack you. While you are waiting have a soppy heart to heart with the children.

    b) Grab the best weapons you can find, locate the most defendable area of your house and move Children/supplies etc to that area.

3 - You think the intruders have gone, you leave your protected area to find out. Do you

    a) Move the axe that was holding the door closed but leave the area unarmed and wonder upstairs to the first room and then indicate to the rest of the Family that its safe.

    b) Take the axe that was holding the door closed as protection and then do a complete search of the house and outside area before letting your family out of the secure area.

4 - You are an Alien master race and you are about to invade a planet. Do you

    a) Invade the planet using only hand to hand combat and do absolutely no intelligence work before the invasion. What's this, you can be killed by water...70% of the earth is covered by water and you Invade without even bringing a Rain Coat !!. Better not try to invade England - you would not last more than 2 minutes.

    b) Do I need to say more?
