    [Highly rated reviewer]

Well crafted TV Series. The programmes manage to weld a personal lifestyle development for the central characters as well as developing quite intricate individual plot lines.

The series explores the world of investigative procedures allied to the world of pathology.

The series is an ideal companion for 'Waking the Dead', another series which follows similar themes, allying itself to 'Cold case' investigations.

  • Poor story-lines

I never watched the earlier series on TV and I enjoyed series one on dvd but series 2 is not a patch on the first series.

It concentrates too much on her family and ignoring the reason the series exists namely silent witness i. e forensic science.

The story-lines are weaker too. It should have been called Sam's dysfunctional family not Silent Witness.

I will give series 3 a try but if it's much the same as series 2, I will be fast forwarding to series 7 when William Gaminara appears

  • Excellent, intriguing dramas

The second series of 'Silent Witness' is dominated by the cat and dog relationship between Dr Sam Ryan, forensic pathologist, and Peter Ross, local police superintendent. This leads to almost unbearably tense moments between them as Sam uses her invesigative skills as a pathologist with a deeply felt quest for the complete truth and and for justice.

The four cases she is confronted with in this series challenge us, the viewers, to anticipate each turn of the the plot, an almost impossible task.

Almost in every situation Sam appears amazingly calm and collected.

The basic plot line in which this perceptive, sensitive and highly intelligent individual maintains her integrity and conviction in the face of official distrust has proved to be very successful. It has been used repeatedly in successive series of this popular drama.

I enjoyed this very much. Seeing Sam in her family setting was interesting for me as I had missed out on the earliest series. I like the strong-willed confident person that she presents but couldn't see her attraction towards the policeman boyfriend who kept undermining and questioning her abilities.

I have just finished watching the first two series of Silent Witness and I must admit I had forgotten how good the early episodes were. OK so Amanda Burton does come over as a bit superior and her voice is agravating but these early shows were much more enjoyable than the more recent ones. Take my advice and give them a chance - I think you may be surprised
