Not as good as I remembered...By a customer from London , 09 Mar 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]I saw this film many years ago and was blown away by it. This time around I was less so. This is the story of Karen Silkwood who, after being contaminated with radiation, investigates the shoddy practices of her employers to their increasing consternation. She eventually dies in mysterious circumstances - was it an accident or was she murdered???
Meryl Streep is wonderful as Karen Silkwood and Cher does a great turn as her dowdy lesbian best friend. Kurt Russell is also good as Silkwood's lover. I am not sure why the whole thing did not gel for me, since the performances of the leading actors are uniformly excellent.
There are a few DVD extras such as production notes and cast biographies.

Worrying storyBy a customer from Hillingdon, England , 17 Feb 2010True story of a whistle blower working at a plutonium processing plant. This is an extremely worrying film depicting the sloppy practises and corner cutting condoned by management. Meryl Streep plays a lonely figure who is trying to put things right in the face of uncooperative co-workers worried about losing their jobs, the self serving union and the downright criminal management.
Diminishing audience?By a customer from ARDGAY , 03 Jan 2010
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideWho now remembers this incident? Who can recall the backdrop of political malevolence that was palpable at the time?
I am very glad this film is still in the repertoire to keep asking us questions about whether similar forces or influences are alive in present day commerce / industry / politics.
Importantly could we recognise similar situations which might arise? Could we do anything about them?
Possibly I wish the climax road crash was filmed in a more sinister manner, but then I am a film goer not a film maker.

SilkwoodBy Heavens (70 reviews) from St Leonards-on-sea , 05 Aug 2008An absolute classic film, great drama and an awesome performance by Meryl Streep and all the cast for that matter. A film that encompassed emotional, social and political themes. One of my all time favourites, this is not the first time I have seen it.
One to watch!
