Whatever happened to David Essex? Here he is, near the end of his heyday, racing motorbikes, dressing in leather, trying to be James Dean and keeping Brylcreem in business. He wrote the music, too. The plot kicks in when Essex is given the mean machine of the title, a space-age ride designed to leave American ace rider Beau Bridges on the starting grid. Love interest is secondary. A vanity project from beginning to end, it tries hard to be a British Wild Angels, Easy Rider or Electra Glide in Blue, but rarely rises above the level of a clapped out Vespa.

One wonders who can have thought there was any box-office appeal in this cliché-ridden, derivative, flashily made update of the Road to Ruin.

Remember this film with a passion as was there when they filmed a lot of it
what on earth have they done to the ending this was not how the film ended!!!! originaly -

Ending.....
This film is about a motorbike rider who wants to be the best. He finally gets his dream bike throught a tragic accident. He goes on to prove how good he is. Sadly the film has been cut and the end changed from sad to a now happy ending – so if you can get the original then watch that.
Ok if you want to see a film you remember from years ago, but if you’ve not seen it before then I would suggest trying something else more up-to-date -

A minor fault
I have one fault with this movie. Not with movie as such but more with carlton. Anyone who remembers this classic bike movie will remember that the very end of the movie as david essex crosses the finish line, the bike developes a fault & he crashes. Carlton in thier infinite wisdom decided to cut this from the movie so the film ends with him crossing finish line to win the race.
Anyone have any idea why they would do this as i cant think of any. -

change of ending
what happened to the original ending. such a let down this version. whos idea was it to change the ending, where the bike failed after going through the finishing line.

THE ENDING
I have this brilliant film on its way to me as I type this. I remember the ending as it was also, but I also know that they re-made the ending as it was thought that killing off the character was to cruel, and that he should have a happier ending, but I agree the original shown ending was better.

this film is great brings back some fine memories and the music to it is as good rent it you wont be dissapointed.

Much of a muchness!!!!!
Same old scene, brother is killed, leaves something behind, brother has to 'make it happen' for the love of his brother. We knew what was going to happen at the end - but it was really graphic. A good afternoon movie none the less.

CLASSIC
When I was a young kid, my hero was Barry Sheene, even though I missed his greatest era, I watched every race on video (remember them!!!!!) and still to this day, other than Rossi, he is still my hero. This film even though it is old, still shows the passion of bikers everywhere. The will to win and never give up is shown best in this 80s classic. It brings back all the memories of watching bikes that made me the massive bike fan I am now.
