Not quite gold but worth silverBy blackpolekev (247 reviews) from blackpole , 30 Nov 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]Having just been released from a mental institution into the custody of his long suffering parents, Pat (Bradley Cooper) is initially such an irritating guy that I was actually hoping he would be returned there. Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) is equally annoying so when they meet it's clear they deserve each other. This is a story which gradually grows on you so that by the end I was rooting for Pat to succeed, not just in the dance contest which would either make or break his father, but in his relationship with Tiffany. Fine performances all round and an above average script make this so much more than a typical rom-com, and a pleasant surprise.

So off the mark (if you've read the book)By a customer , 04 Dec 2013Having read the book, this film was almost unrecognisable and disappointing. The story and, more importantly, the characters' stories and their journeys felt completely different from the book. Maybe they thought there wasn't enough time or that the film would be boring or dark if sticking to the book, but I was actually looking forward to the book being put into a film and struggled throughout the film getting into this 'new' story. The changes, from the very beginning, made the film completely lose the charm and reality of the book's story. Such a shame as it could so easily have been great if they'd only stuck to the actual story and characters! Everything was wrong, so only watch this if you have not already read the book and felt the story. Otherwise, I think you will be bewildered too.
Every cloud has a silver lining they say....By JillyB (5 reviews) , 03 Dec 2013but this cloud caused more of a downpour and was a complete washout. This film was so awful that we switched it off just over half an hour in. Think we must have been watching a different film to some other reviewers. While I understand that mental health issues need to be out there as a normal part of daily life this film just portrayed the mental health problems of the lead character as a cause of hilarity. Sadly it wasn't funny at all. Watching paint dry would be more entertaining than this film.
Worth a watchBy a customer , 01 Dec 2013Good film it was a tad dull and dragged out in a few places but all in all it was an alright film.
A little dullBy a customer , 30 Nov 2013Found this film a little dull and I think it had a very predictable ending. I did make a cup of tea half way through and didn't bother to pause it because I wasn't worried about missing any of it....
Very goodBy MrsHardy (5 reviews) , 25 Nov 2013Really liked this, the female lead character is a super freak and slightly distracting in a weird but compelling way. The end tailed off quite badly and seemed to lose focus, could have been wrapped up better. Otherwise highly watchable and thought provoking :)
