Another technological marvel that re-creates with great brilliance the look and feel of a comic book. The content is another matter, being sub-Mickey Spillane pulp fiction where men are thugs and women are whores and church and state combine in corruption
The coolest film of the year
I dont want to hype this film too much as this provides more scope for disapointment. If you want to decide for yourself, all i'll say is go and see it. If you want to read my gushy feelings about this film, then read on! This has to be one the best films ive seen in years, probably sits firmly in my top 5 films of all time. The black and white with the colour spots is really effective at creating atmosphere. Its stylish, graphic, violent, sexy and fast. If you like films like pulp fiction, kill bill etc then see this movie. If you prefer realistic movies then this isnt for you, as its far fetched to the max. (being based on a comic) Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson stole the show for me. Mickey for his character - what an amazing, complicated character! Rosario, as she was the reason i went to see this is the first place, one of the hottest women on this planet! Im still in awe of this movie... I saw it last night, and couldnt sleep last night as my head was full flashing stylised snippets from the movie... remembering parts id forgotten and giggling to myself. It really is quite funny as well... some nice cheesy one liners thrown in here and there. Deffinitely THE movie of 2005, no doubt!
For the sheer fun of the visual comic-book-comes-to-the-screen experience, this would get five stars. As for content, there were bits I found very hard to take, but then I'm pretty squeamish; and not even the stylised visuals could quite make it palatable. Anyway, this averages out at about three and a half stars. In some ways I loved it, but I came away feeling a bit tainted too.
One of the year's biggest films makes its way on to DVD today, with the UK release of Frank Miller's Sin City. The film wowed cinemagoers earlier this year with its impressive black and white visual effects and an all-star cast. The film was directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, and also features Quentin Tarantino as a special guest director. The lead roles in the movie are taken by Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Michael... Read more
