    [Highly rated reviewer]

An outstanding movie due to the believable performances and the incredible way in which it draws you into the world of the characters. Despite ignoring many of the political issues involved in illegal immigration and gang violence it portrays a realistic journey through the eyes of the two main protagonists, in which the audience feels a real part of. You may not leave uplifted or indeed wanting to visit Central America but you will leave with thoughts about the peoples lives and how incomparable your own problems are. Powerful Stuff that stays with you long after the closing credits!

A compelling story of Hondurans making the perilous journey through Mexico in the hope of reaching America. It's a humane road movie which takes in the genres of a love story and a gangster movie. It's a violent and vivid film, which is well acted, well executed and visually striking.

  • A compelling story of a man struggling against his own fate.

Beautifully done. The characters are believable. It really portrays how some peoples lives and deaths are already decided for them. Born into a brutal place with a need to feel secure and belong, the youngest character joins the gang. Once your in your in! It's kill or be killed. The guy who brought him in (the big brother) has a change of heart and his struggle to escape the gang is when the struggle against the odds and his own fate begins. Has he created a monster in his young protege and will he be his undoing? A compelling story.

Really good film and really feels like you've been opened up and exposed to a whole different world. Requires the viewer to pay attention due to sub titles unless you can speak Spanish of course, but really well made and the great acting makes the situations feel very real and believable.

  • Strangely good.

A little strange in that it is a different style from European / American films. Story is a little slow and very matter of fact. This film shows no one up in a good light. The gang culture is well portrayed. Sub titles do not take away from the feel of the film.

  • The new City of God...

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film as I'd never heard of the director but I was pleasantly surprised.

The intensity grew with the film and I got more involved with the characters as they made their journey.

Makes you think twice about taking the positive things in your life for granted.

Reminded me of City of God, if you like that film you'll probably like this.
