Catnip for wartime audiences, this comes across as almost unbearably sentimental slop now. Poor old suffering Colbert manages to keep her home running while her husband is off in WW2, with 2 daughters to look after and various men breezing in and out. It's all archly gooey and noble, with only Monty Woolley and Hattie McDaniel providing some much needed vinegar to the mix.
