  • It is not only James Joyce and the Keystone Cops, it's Dylan Thomas and the Goons. It will become a cult, with people seeing it many times over discovering new details all the while.

  • This extraordinary film is one of the most haphazard British comedies I've seen. It is also a long time since I've laughed so much... a cult in the making.

    Extraordinary

Vivian Stanshal the writer (aso performs) is extremely perculiar. Apart from a reference to digital watches this film could be set any time after WWII. It is a beautiful piece of work, although very odd. In order to appreciate it properly you need to watch it several times, but it will be worth it. There is something Gillianesque although this film probably pre-dates Brazil. Shot in black and white. Trevor Howard gives a great performance (as do all) 'I don't know what I want but I want it NOW'

A quintessentially English slice of zaniness.

Trevor Howard described this as the one film he made where he did'nt have a clue as to what it was about.I particuarly enjoyed it's portrayal of English upper class twits although some viewers may be uncomfortable with it's post colonial rasict language[frequent references to jungle bunnies and sambos].

Should appeal to all fans of the Bonzo dog doodah band although I feel it works better as an audio recording where you can paint your own pictures with your imagination than as a film.
