On-the-run after witnessing her Las Vegas mobster boyfriend kill someone, a tacky lounge singer (Whoopi Goldberg) enters the Witness Protection Program - as a nun. Now the convent needs protection, from the new Sister Mary Clarence and her Vegas-style ideas on how to run the choir. A charming comedy and one of Goldberg's best .. Read more

Ghost may have won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar, but it was this comedy (directed by Emile Ardolino of Dirty Dancing fame) that turned her into a huge Hollywood star. Goldberg plays the Reno lounge singer who accepts a police offer of protection that entails hiding out in a convent after she witnesses lover Harvey Keitel killing a man. That's about it for plot in this comedy from the Disney stable, and the remainder of the movie follows our heroine as she tries to bring the nuns and Maggie Smith's strict Mother Superior into the 20th century. Relying on some great songs and a superb cast (including Kathy Najimy as sunny Sister Mary Patrick), this successfully gets past the slight story to become a hugely enjoyable movie.

Cheerful and modest comedy, though lacking in wit and with a plot that makes little sense. It was the surprise hit of 1992, ranking fourth at the box-office.

what can i say .... she is just a brilliant comedian , she walks funny , she giggle and laughs funny .. if you have a warped sense of humour .. dont rent .. but if you love life to the max .. then rent and enjoy..

highlights of the movie .. is the nuns outfit, the way she walks into the bar scene... and the swinging arguments with the head .. she certainly does it all very old film now but watchable forever

MANY laugh out loud moments and a very funny film. Whoopi is fab as usual and some great gospel moments to send the soul soaring.

Halleluiah - what a funny film this is!

A wonderful film of courage, antics and God. Goldberg shines as the only black woman in the convent who tries to fit in by helping the downhill choir. A fantastic premise that had potential for being made much more comic! Nonetheless, it has beautiful moments, foot-tapping choir singing and excellent acting by the entire cast. A great family comedy caper all year round indeed!

Whoopi Goldberg was good in Sister Act.

Whoopi Goldberg was good as Sister Mary Clarence in the convent, in hiding from gangsters. Hilariously funny in parts, acting fine and the plot was good. Musical elements entertaining. Worth watching.

    Whoopee

This is great fun...the whole family loved it; good for a wet evening in... but then again just as enjoyable when the sun is burning a hole in the pavement outside your window. Now we want to see no.2

    What a film!

This is a wonderful film! When the nun sings on her own for the first time, my eyes filled up, and shivers ran down my spine. Absolutely a wonderful film which should be watched, whether you are religious or not!!
