Six Days, Seven Nights

Tough as nails New York magazine editor (Heche) is surprised when her boyfriend (Schwimmer) pulls the romantic stunt of spontaneously buying tickets for a romantic South Pacific getaway. The trip seems to be shiny and happy until they find out that a grizzled curmudgeonly pilot (Ford) is their sole option for reaching their final destination, the remote island of Marcata. Along the way the bickering couple finds themselves stranded on a desert island, threatened by pirates, and ultimately, falling in love. A fun romantic comedy with good comic performances from Ford and Heche.

Although she detests the “woman director” tag, Diane Kurys has forged her reputation by focusing on modern women and their problems. However, the naturalistic style and keen, witty social insights for which she is renowned are notably absent from this disappointing outing that was released in France as A la Folie. Indeed, there's a distinct shortage of tension and sexual ambiguity in this otherwise carefully constructed tale of female rivalry, as Béatrice Dalle abandons her family in a bid to destroy artist Anne Parillaud's romance with Patric Aurignac. An intriguing premise, but it's undermined by the slack scripting and inconsistent acting.

    Great fun

I love this film. There's nothing difficult about the plot, the comedy is straightforward and the casting is first class. It's basically Harrison Ford doing what he does best in a tropical island setting. Of course there's romance and danger too.

I've seen this film several times and will no doubt rent it again soon.
