Although she detests the woman director tag, Diane Kurys has forged her reputation by focusing on modern women and their problems. However, the naturalistic style and keen, witty social insights for which she is renowned are notably absent from this disappointing outing that was released in France as A la Folie. Indeed, there's a distinct shortage of tension and sexual ambiguity in this otherwise carefully constructed tale of female rivalry, as Béatrice Dalle abandons her family in a bid to destroy artist Anne Parillaud's romance with Patric Aurignac. An intriguing premise, but it's undermined by the slack scripting and inconsistent acting.
A romantic comedy so obvious in its outcome that an audience can sleep through most of it without missing anything of interest.

I love this film. There's nothing difficult about the plot, the comedy is straightforward and the casting is first class. It's basically Harrison Ford doing what he does best in a tropical island setting. Of course there's romance and danger too.
I've seen this film several times and will no doubt rent it again soon.
Magazine editor Robin Monroe (Heche) and her fiance Frank Martin (Schwimmer) are on a romantic South Seas vacation when Robin is called away on business. Needing to find a quick flight to Tahiti, she recruits the services of rough around the edges, gruff cargo pilot Quinn Harris (Ford) who lives on the islands. He agrees to take her because he needs the money. They take off in his weather beaten plane but the flight turns rocky when a sudden storm comes up. Quinn tries to control the plane and bring it down safely, but instead they end up crashing on a deserted island. Once there the mismatched pair find themselves at odds but stranded together, they realize that they must work together if they are going to survive the island. They both face frustration at their situation, danger when they encounter modern day pirates and are chased throughout the island, snakes, wild boars and finally, a growing attraction for each other.
I love this movie, has great characters, good story, great scenery, humour and adventure.. just the movie to escape into on a dreary winters evening.. recommended!!

Anne Heche's business-focused magazine editor initially dislikes Harrison Ford's gruff, laid-back pilot and that dislike deepens into outright hostility when circumstances maroon them on an Pacific island. But, in working together to escape their predicament and avoid dangers like snakes and pirates, that dislike is replaced by a deepening respect and then blah blah blah.
This is bog-standard rom-com territory and any one who has seen one before doesn't need me to complete the above or fill in the details, such as the nice-but-dull boyfriend, the inappropriate girlfriend and the glorious settings. Its all done at least competently and, in places, the dialogue crackles but what sets it aside is the quirkiness, the genuine chemistry between Heche and Ford, ... and the pirates.
This is an uneven film because of the mixture of these elements. The pirates really belong in another film but clearly the script writer was told to add a sense of imminent and personal threat to the main characters, and chose pirates as that threat but they do not work at all.
The chemistry is almost to be expected for the film to be a rom-com but, even given the situation, the viewer doesn't have to try to believe in it. What really raises the film, and just about balances out the pirates, is the quirkiness present in all those standard elements that lends an nice touch of unexpected freshness to a path that's been trod so many times before.
Yes this film was great, Harrison Ford was his usual hunky self but also very funny. Great movie, great fun, and great entertainment.
A very funny story! Well worth your rental!
This is my favourite film of harrison ford. Him and Anne heche stranded on a desert island is a very old idea, but the two of them are extremely funny together. The sight of a blow up boat engulfing heche inside their wrecked plane will stay with me. Apart from the inevitable gushy stuff, it was funny
A light comedy with some action thrills thrown in. Harrison Ford always makes a movie worth viewing. Beautiful South Pacific island scenery and an interesting, if not to original story line. Harrison and Heche make an acceptable couple and play well together, despite the age difference. Well worth renting out.
A all round great film, great characters. Romance, comedy and action. Well worth a watch would watch again.
This really is a great film, Harrison Ford does a great job as always.
A cute and funny film thats well worth a look.
