Makes you think
By a customer from Suffolk, England , 11 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is the story of an unexplained young man (Will Smith)breaking in to the wealthy world of New York. The mysterious stranger weaves in and out of the plot, which also focusses on reactions to him, and what these reactions show.
Much more than a mystery the film examines prejudice, society and truth. It cuts to the heart of characters. As Stockard Channing's character remarks - we make people into anecdotes but there is really far more to them. Can we ever really explain people?
This film was originally a play and parts of it, especially the beginning, reflect that. It requires a bit of concentration to begin with, but is worth watching, and thought provoking.- Was this review helpful to you?

(37)Mixed feelings
By a customer , 01 Apr 2012I was interested in this film because of the Six Degrees of Separation theory and I suppose in a way this film does illustrate that. However I found it hard to believe that two savvy high flying New Yorkers were taken in by Will Smith's character, as were so many other people. I also thought the reactions of their children when approached bordered on caricature. Perhaps the film was too deep for me to understand? As I say in the title, I have mixed feelings about this film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Painful to watch
By 1710charlie (28 reviews) from Reading , 28 Aug 2010For a start, i never stopped being aware of the fact that I was watching actors saying lines in a movie. Next, the two older characters (Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland) were unbearable. Consequently you felt no empathy so the film couldn't make you interstedin seeing what happened to them. Ian McKellan should be spending his fee on voice coaching. He did the worst South African accent I have ever heard.
Will Smith seemed to be acting well but the film was so appalling that after 40 minutes with everyone in the living room (young and old, male and female) all sighing and fidgeting, we gave up and there wasn't even anything decent on TV!- Was this review helpful to you?
