Most helpful review
Consistently intelligent, touching, real.By Duncan Toms from Cornwall, UK , 22 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]There aren't many TV series like this around. It could have turned out depressing, given the theme of the show, but the varied characters and interwoven stories keep a kinetic energy flowing throughout, whilst touching on subjects that affect us all. The characters are varied, believable and involving, and the script tight and often surprising in its direction, especially the dialogue with dead characters. The most appealing aspect for me is the learning process the family are going through, none of whom are stagnating. A refreshing 'unAmerican' American programme.

Customer ReviewBy a customer from UK , 23 Jun 2008Six Feet Under is TV testimony that human tragedy and comedy are two sides of the same coin. One of most original TV drama series ever created. Hats off to Alan Ball, a writer and producer of unparalleled sensitivity and perspicacity.
Mortality rulesBy bluewolf (5 reviews) from Ipswich , 09 May 2008I can't stress enough how amazing Six Feet Under is. It is by far my favourite ever TV show of all time. For a series set around a funeral home, it is in no way bleak and depressing. It is actually full of life (and death) and darkly comical. The characters are incredible, all with their different quirks. You will fall in love with the Fisher family. You will feel sad when they do, you will laugh along with them, you will be blown away by various plot developments. The supporting characters are great too. Nate's girlfriend Brenda is one of the strangest, most complexed characters ever created. As the series progresses, the episodes get a little darker but it consistently keeps you hooked. You will love watching the Fisher family progress through their lives.
excellentBy GC (10 reviews) from Whitley Bay , 07 May 2008Thoroughly entertaining, slightly quirky, often funny. Really recommend anyone gives this a try. Very black humour as you would guess from the setting. It's just a bit different - I've just bought series 2 box set on the basis that I enjoyed series 1 so much.
Six Feet Under - Life and DeathBy dharmavegan (6 reviews) from Bristol , 27 Mar 2008
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideThis is one of the best TV series I've ever seen, including UK drama. Unlike so many US dramas, it's subtle in places, wise, funny and also shocking. The characters are really engaging and each one's ongoing development is gripping. The treatment of death and society's attitudes towards it is very thought-provoking. Lots of other themes too... love (gay and straight), mental health, spirituality... brilliant, brillilant! Yet it does it without being at all preachy, just very convincingly real. The part where Brenda and Nate pretend to be bereaved clients so they can check out how good the opposition is, was jawdroppingly good.
Six Feet UnderBy Vas (5 reviews) from Barnet , 03 Mar 2008I missed this when it first came on tv but it's not only macabre, it completely epitomises American society and how many problems they all have. So far so good...
