Sky High

Most teenagers cringe at the thought of meeting their parents' high expectations good grades, well-behaved friends, and a plan for the future and none more so than Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of legendary superheroes Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston). This clever Disney comedy follows Will from his first day as star student at Sky High, an elite school for the children of superheroes. The only problem is that Will apparently has no special powers, and he can't let his parents find out! Lacking the abilities needed to attend hero classes, Will falls in with the misfit sidekicks, whose only powers include turning into a guinea pig, glowing, and melting. However, when an old villain with a new power reappears on the scene, the pressure is on Will and his sidekicks to save his parents, his school, and the earth itself. Perhaps as a tribute to the classic era of teen films, SKY HIGH features a soundtrack bursting with 1980s hits covered by contemporary artists, including Flashlight Brown, Bowling for Soup, and Vitamin C. The film also features performances that will please adult viewers, including a cameo as the school principal by former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, comedian Dave Foley as a washed up sidekick, and EVIL DEAD star Bruce Campbell as Coach Boomer. Truly fun for all ages, the charming teen stars, fast pace, and universal story make Sky High a clear family classic on par with Sixteen Candles, Spy Kids, and National Lampoon's Vacation.

  • A family comedy with welcomely loopy asides... It's clever to take the standard 'cool' and 'nerd' high school subcultures and transform them into 'heroes' and their sidekicks.

    superb

my daughter Bethany really enjoyed this film. it is set in a world where superheroes are commonly known and accepted.

young Will Stronghold, the son of the Commander and Jetstream, tries to find a balance between being a normal teenager and an extraordinary being.

It all begins at a secret school in the clouds like none on earth: Sky High, the first and only high school for kids with super-human powers going through crime-fighting puberty. At Sky High, the student body throw flames with their footballs, study Villainy with their Chemistry and are divided into Heroes and Sidekicks instead of jocks and geeks.

It's an out-of-this-world yet completely recognizable place where cool gadgetry, rampant bravery and awe-inspiring magical skills mix it up with parental battles, peer pressure and dating trouble--with explosively fun results. This year's class features some of the best, brightest and most powerfully gifted super-teens ever assembled. And then there's Will Stronghold. When you're the son of the world's most legendary super heroes, The Commander and Jetstream, people expect you to live up to the family name The problem is that Will is starting with no superpowers of his own and, worst of all, instead of joining the ranks of the Hero class, he finds himself relegated to being a Sidekick.

Now he must somehow survive his freshman year while dealing with an overbearing gym coach, a bully with super speed and a dangerous rebel with a grudge (and the ability to shoot fire from his hands)--not to mention the usual angst, parental expectations and girl problems that accompany teenage life. But when an evil villain threatens his family, friends and the very sanctity of Sky High, Will must use his newfound superpowers to save the day and prove himself a Hero worthy of the family tradition.

    well worth renting out.

Should be good could be better

Sky High is the modern equivilent of the old Jocks and Nerds High School movies so common in the '80s.

This time following the glut of superhero movies the distinction is between Superheros and Sidekicks after that it's all a matter of the usual suspects turning up the beautiful best friend , lovable dorky friend, the fat and thin bullies, bitchy cheerleaders etc.

So imagine all the cliches of a typical high school movie but with super powered fights in there and you've pretty much got the film.

To be honest this has far more potential as a tv series but it is fun there's a cheesy super villain plot that's easy to see coming a mile off but that's not really the point.

This is a good fun movie and reasonably well acted by it's young cast as an in joke for the older staff the head mistress of the sky high super school is Linda Carter.

Speculation grows over new Wonder Woman

    • 25 Jul 2005

The original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, has declared that stars such as Sandra Bullock and Catherine Zeta-Jones are too old to play the role of the super heroine. Carter, who appeared as Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series, thinks an unknown actress in her 20s should play the role for the film, due to start shooting next year. Yet this has not stopped Hollywood speculation from mounting with a host of hot talent being touted as potential favourites. Mischa Barton, star of TV hit series The OC, Read more
