LOVEFiLM Review Skyfall

  • 4 stars out of 5

Daniel Craig cements his 007 capabilities, while Javier Bardem steps in as one of the great Bond villains.

Most helpful review Skyfall

  • Not your typical BOND Film, but a Very Different type of BOND Film

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Skyfall is almost as good as Casino Royal but definitely a lot better than Quantum of Solace, the plot makes more sense! Oh a difficult film to review. This isn’t your typical Bond Film. It’s perhaps the most unique and odd Bond film ever made out of all them. It doesn’t follow the same formula as the rest of the series. Yes, there’s Bond Girls, a Bond Villain and a great opening sequence, but the film, dare I say, is more about M (Dench – who is awesome) rather than about Bond himself.

After the opening sequence, it takes while to get into, about and 1 hour and a half, as soon as Bardem makes his appearance who is very good as the bad guy. It reminded me of how The Dark Knight went along, although Skfall not as cleverly accomplished as that film. The action scenes are decent, but not as memorable as past Bond films like Casino Royal. Craig is showing some Bond humour now, but not on a Roger Moore humour level, that will take a miracle! And Q returns, which great, but no invisible car, which is great too.

I like the ending, sombre but it allows Daniel Craig’s Bond to go in a new direction, which I look forward to seeing. Overall a very, very, different Bond Film, that is enjoyable to watch, but it isn’t perfect. Hopefully Chris Nolan will direct the next one and show his interpretation of the perfect Bond.

    Good effort 007.

  • Even drives through New Cross, SE London

This is Bond with bells on. Bond now attracts great actors, and now even great directors, cinematographer just loves the blue eyes of M and Bond. The Baddy is great, spanish actor Javier is great, i only dropped a star, as the Scottish part felt slightly A-Team, but apart from that, I highly recommend this movie

  • RETURN TO ROOTS

    Rated - 4.5 stars

THIS IS THE GOOD OLD BOND , RETURN TO ITS ROOTS . THE LATEST BOND HAS A TOUGHER EDGE THAN THE REAL BOND , CONNERY , BUT AS YET HAS NOT GAINED THE SARDONIC HUMOUR. SKYFALL IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND THE FILM PASSES IN AN INSTANT . IT IS A LITTLE THIN ON THE BADDIE BACKGROUND AND DOES NOT QUITE PULL IT OFF . THERE IS A DEARTH OF SEXY WOMEN , WHICH NEEDS ADJUSTING . IT IS A PREQUIL TO BOND AND PUTS BOND BACK INTO HIS 60'S CHARACTER. THE LATEST BOND OUTSHINES ALL SINCE CONNERY AND THE GREEN SCREEN HAS LARGELY GONE , ALSO THE TONGUE IN CHEEK BONDS POST CONNERY , HOPEFULLY HAVE BEEN , LAIN TO REST . WHAT NEXT , THE FULL BOOKS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER WITH THIS BEST TWENTY FIRST CENTURY SPY , HOPE SO.

  • This isn't the JB films of old!!

    Rated - 2.0 stars

You might as well have Bruce Willis as JB, Daniel Craig bond never smiles, is boring, isn't smooth, swarve or funny like Roger Moore was. Where are the gadget, the one liners??? If you like just a plain old action film then this film is fine, but for die hard JB fans you will be really disappointed. A new JB and back to basics please!!

  • What a waste of talent

    Rated - 3.0 stars

You have a bunch of highly talented actors (Bardem, Dench, Fiennes) in this film who give their best, but unfortunately cannot make-up for the lack of substance, the stereotypical development of the story, and the emotional superficiality of the main characters. The stunning scenaries and technical effects keep you going for a while, until you get bored... What annoyed me the most in this film was Bond's female assistant... in the past at least they had some wit. Now they are casted as brainless, over-confident military-barbies, who think of themselves as very clever and funny - you'd think the director hired them directly from Sugar's last year's Apprentice... I switched off the telly half way through, because I couldn't stand it any longer...

  • Not a bond fan but impressed with this film

    Rated - 4.5 stars

I am not a 007 fan but decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed - this has restored by faith in James Bond and I am now going to rent the other Daniel Craig 007 films. The fantastic plot and action scenes had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the full length of the film. If you are not a bond fan but enjoy a good action film then please rend this movie!
