Slap Her... She's French

Following the classic teen movie formula in which a new girl arrives in a small-town high school and throws off everybody's understanding of who's who in the popular crowd, SLAP HER, SHE'S FRENCH stars Piper Perabo (COYOTE UGLY) as a French foreign exchange student in Texas. At first the demure visitor is content to stay on the sidelines, but as she begins to usurp the family, friends, and boyfriend of her Texan hostess (Jane McGregor), the insular world of high school popularity is thrown into a tailspin. Directed by Melanie Mayron, best known for her role on the television show Thirtysomething.

A cultural exchange visit descends into a teen twist on Single White Female in this Texas-set comedy. And the movie's magpie nature doesn't end with that little lift, as director Melanie Mayron was clearly taking copious notes while watching Legally Blonde and Drop Dead Gorgeous as well. Yet, despite its derivative nature, this still comes across as an entertaining farce thanks to Jane McGregor's vivacious turn as the shallow overachiever whose life is sabotaged by seemingly harmless French gamine Piper Perabo. Indeed, McGregor's performance — an able blend of bimbo-ish bitching and slapstick comedy — almost atones for the anaemic moralising and the sentimentality of the romantic subplot.

    SLAP Her ... Shes French

This was an averagely funny movie... Has to be watch with kids around to get the atmosphere. I would rate it as a decent Sunday afternoon/evening family movie.
