A much ignored classic!
By Mujahid Amin from Manchester, England , 25 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Go on, treat yourself to this classic Paul Newman movie that is all 1970s. It is fairly foul-mouthed and violent enough for the censors to ban certain parts on its original release. The great thing is that even today it can more than hold it's own. The soundtrack to this tale of a down on its luck ice hockey team is great. The Hanson brothers are a treat to watch...you will have to see it to find out. It is meant to be an adult comedy and Newman shines in his role as the desperate and unorthodox coach. I think it is fair to say I loved it...so will you.hopefully.- Was this review helpful to you?

31 Years Old and Still Awesome!
By a customer from Manchester , 15 Jan 2008I've been a fan of this film for years, ever since we watched it on an away trip with the hockey team. The comedy hasn't aged at all! It's still as funny and sharp as it was in 1977 (not that i was around then!)
I would rent this film again and watch it repeatedly, the only problem was the copy I was sent was scratched to hell and I had to skip a few chapters again to get it to play again. Can't say that I missed out on much plot but it would have been nice to watch it without this happening.
Despite this I would still recommend this to everyone, even people with no interest in Ice Hockey. It's just plain funny!- Was this review helpful to you?
