An impulsive sexual encounter from her past haunts Amy, an otherwise seemingly normal young woman with a bright future and nice-guy fiance. When she succumbs to his requests for complete honesty she finds that those closest too her are not able to cope with the "complete" truth. This is a funny and poignant film, that looks seriously at the meaning and importance of truth and honesty--and when it is okay to keep some things to oneself.

This is a refreshing antidote to all those gross-out American comedies in which we are supposed to smile indulgently as pubescent males try anything to lose their virginities and, in the process, commit some pretty foul acts and reduce all young women who cross their paths to sex dolls. In this, a young woman commits an impulsive, if somewhat unconventional, sexual act, then, some years later and with predictable results, is cajoled into revealing it to a boyfriend following his pleas that they be honest with each other. The boyfriend's hypocrisy is staggering, and, unfortunately, mirrored by the moralistic tone of reviewers who no doubt laughed uproariously at 'American Pie'. This is an adult film - that is adult as in grown-up rather than adult as in masturbatory - about honesty, secrets and hypocrisy, and deserves to be treated as such. Boys with sexual curiosity - hilarious: girls with sexual curiosity - disgusting. Maybe it's time we all grew up.
While the films premise suggests a typical US gross-out comedy in the same vein as 'American Pie' et al, this movie is infinitley more rewarding. To be sure, it is not without its flaws - it has a low budget 'made for tv' look about it, some broad humour and the central relationships never quite convince - yet it yeilds many incidental gems. There are some brilliantly conceived jokes along the way, and the story is well constructed leading to a touching and intellectually satisfying denouement. Should soon become cult viewing amongst those dissatisfied with the forementioned generic fair that we have sadly become so accustomed to.
