Flatulence jokes, grating stereotypes and an avalanche of female neuroses make an anaemic combination in this unappealing adolescent comedy. Starring SPYkids youngster Alexa Vega, it's so cheesy it will have most teens rolling their eyes in seconds. In a sadly wasted performance, Vega plays uncool 14-year-old Julie, whose sleepover is turned on its head when the trendiest girls in school challenge her and her guests to a risky scavenger hunt. Not only do the pals have to sneak out of the house unnoticed, but they also have to go to a nightclub and even swipe the underwear of Julie's dream boy. Lazily scripted and shoddily executed, director Joe Nussbaum's feature debut is both flat and tired. There's no vibrancy or charm, just a jumble of rehashed ideas that will give anyone over the age of 13 an unfortunate sense of déjà vu.
...like Mean Girls but set over one night.
We enjoyed this movie, Its a good, albeit frothy, teen flick. The movie isn't trying to be anything other than a breezy romp, and on that level, it succeeds.
First- time director Joe Nussbaum keeps it all buzzing along at such a clip that if one bit falls flat, the next one kicks the film back into gear.
Worth a watch! :o)
