The Superman myth has always been magical and heroic, but little has been written about Clark Kent's small-town life as a teenager growing up in Smallville. While he comes to terms with being a high-flying superhero he still has adolescence to contend with and never before has Superman been so cool and hip. Featuring newcomers Tom Welling (in the title role) and Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luther and seasoned actors such as the DUKES OF HAZZARD's John Schneider and Annette O'Toole (SUPERMAN 3) this state-of-the-art special effects packed series satisfies our small screen appetite for comic book heroes. I expected this to be rubbish, lets face it how much more of superman can you do.
Well this has an alternative edge, based entireley on Clarke kent as a young man at high school, Lex Luther his best friend no Lois Lane and all the problems that you could not imagine being at school with superhuman powers. It does get a little predictable after a few episodes but is still very entertaining and well put together. the special effects are more than you would expect from a TV series, more what you would see from a major film.
All in all I look forward to the next series, well worth a look.
All too often I'm out, its changed channel or I simply dont have the time to follow 24 week by week episodes. I have in the past enjoyed Smallville but following it seems alot more complicated and now I find they're up to season 7, I think, and I'm clueless. So its off to the beginning with me, watching the whole thing without skipping a single story line. Much better. I can take my time and understand how on earth we got to the trailers I have been seeing on the television recently.
I would also add that this first season has aged rather well, still holding my attention for a second time. If your like me and you dont know too much it can feel as though you are an insider knowing some of whats to come and trying to see the key events that lead you there. The early episodes are very much 'stand alone' episodes and only have a thread of main story running through them but as the series builds momentum and popularity the twists and turns progress and the abiity to watch them in larger chucks becomes all the more rewarding.
Great for a first timer but equally enjoyable for a second time catch up. Only question is do I have enough time to catch up before the new series?
