The latest helping in young superman saga explores Clarks final year at Smallville High. The series focuses upon the quest by Clark, Lana, Lex and Lana's new boyfriend Jason to reunite three stones thought to have great power.
The series seems to have taken a back seat to on going storylines, and returned toslightly more independent episodes like season 2. This, I feel was a move for the better, after season 3 tried to cram several parallel stories into many of its episodes. The series focuses more upon the characters and development of the superman story than on the relationship between Clark and Lana. There are also many new charaters and cameos, including Lois Lane and a young Flash.
All in all a great series, and I look forward to seeing season 5.
Firstly & unlike reviewing a movie, with a TV series you have to be a fan & logged into the storyline, or any praise or criticism will be completely useless. Critics may quickly condemn the series as it does not follow the ORIGINAL Superman story & is now set in a later era, but the writers/producers obviously meant this to be an expansive view of Clark Kent's early life, updated, to give present-time appeal. It is, after all sci-fi!
My comments are that the series season by season have not lost any impact, in their continuity, but have been consistent in gradually unfolding the original 'Superman' legend (Lex the Evil/Lois Lane's intro etc) together with the outstanding movie-like special effects & have been throughout - entertaining! This is why we watch!!
Finally, I consider that the actor Tom Welling has been ideally cast for his role & his charismatic appeal carries the series throughout.
A great opener for Smallville with the introduction of Lois Lane.
These first episodes have finally seperated both Clark and Lana and maybe for the better. We now see Lana with her own story and very own destiny rather than chasing after Clarks attentions with her puppy dog eyes. Lex is back to his old tricks and is now finally shaping up to be the arch villian capable of upsetting the man of steel. A enjoyable watch which pays attention to character development without being to serious.

Like every year, the season begins by quickly restoring Clark to his usual self and showing that everyone is OK despite the cliffhanger from the previous series. Then it settles back into mainly standalone episodes while dragging out a story arc over 20 or so episodes building up to the series finale. It's entertaining enough despite the fact that we've seen it all before, I hope the next series can push Lex down the path to arch enemy a little more and Clark can finally start flying a little bit.
Can smallville get any better....I love it. I remember when I first got into it when series one was on channel Four, and my continued bragging to everyone explaining how good it was finally began to take effect when a number of my mates started tuning in and said it was excellent...Series 4 does not disappoint. especially Lex who's shows his alternative evil side was fantastic....just cant wait to see season 5....
This series is really entertaining, although personally I think 99% of the sub-stories that show per episode are very weak and sometimes just silly. The Series story however, is excellent! Particually the relationship between Lex and his father and Clark and Lana really heart felt at times. Really good performances given by almost all of the cast.
the season has it all...humour, intrigue, romance and action!!!the best season so far!
Incredibly good TV series- this season is a bit weak, though, as lex Luthor's change to evil is not convincingly portrayed, but that's due to the writers rather than the excellent Michael Rosenbaum.
Excellent TV series, though Lex's change to evil is not convincing - this is the writers' fault not the actor's.
Well, after the depressing end of season 3 (dont get me wrong - I enjoyed it all, its just that the final few episodes left me and my wife feeling depressed each time) Smallville is back with a vengance! Breathtaking plot with loads of little twists - Clark goes bad again, and with the introduction of a fiesty well known reporter from the films - its all looking up again. Highly recomended, but Im sorry you have to watch season 3 (and 2 and 1) first...
