Good flim to send you to sleep
By doggies (15 reviews) from Goole , 06 Jun 2011Very slow Quid looked drunk or on something throughout the film. The only redeeming actor was Page. But her talent was not stretched as it could of been, altough she was the strongest cartor in the whole film. Very little really happens and could of been told in half the time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Smart People are dull. COMPLETELY AVOID THIS FILM!
By jevo90 (8 reviews) from Southampton , 28 May 2011So I rented this cause I thought it would be a rom-com, and as I like SJP in most things and liked Dennis Quaid in The Parent Trap, I assumed it couldn't be that bad. An absolutely awful film. The characters were dull, they spoke in monotone, the pace was far too slow and the entire film was filled with lots of awkward silences, the storyline was non-existent. The characters never smiled. There wasn't any humour, or action. To classify this film as 'comedy, drama, and romance' is completely false and misleading. Because it lacked everything. I watched it once and fell asleep after half an hour, but I refuse to ever stop watching a film - I always give it the benefit of the doubt, and hope that it picks up. This film did nothing for me. I don't know who it's target audience is, or who it should appeal to, but my god... It had everything that a movie should not have!! I strongly recommend this film is avoided at all costs!- Was this review helpful to you?

smart people
By a customer from edinburgh , 19 Aug 2010I had high hopes for this with such a good central cast but it was a huge letdown .
Unsympathetic characters, quaid mumbling his lines like a charisma free zone ,ellen page not acting a role but being 'ellen page' , a romance between quaid and sarah parker that was utterly unbelievable and even the normally reliable thomas hayden church cast adrift .
The story just doesnt work full stop - and more importantly it isnt funny at any stage. Just full of phoney self importance .
The actors must surely be regretting their involvement . A total embarrasment.- Was this review helpful to you?

Smart People: Stupid Movie
By RJTaylor (31 reviews) from Manchester , 22 Jul 2010My greatest fear is having to spend an evening with someone who enjoyed this film. With its parade of uniquely egregious characters plodding through a series of predictable, unfunny motions, accompanied by a non-stop soundtrack of campfire strumming, Smart People is clearly supposed to be one of those films which really gets under your skin. And it does, but for none of the reasons it intends.
If you're in the market for the kind of movie that Smart People thinks it is, then you've probably already seen the immeasurably superior Squid and the Whale. If so, I can only recommend you watch it again rather than sit through this saccharine slop, which will leave you wanting to beat the next available folk-rock singer to death with the neck of his own guitar.- Was this review helpful to you?
