Burt Reynolds stars as the Bandit in this seminal portrayal of rough-ridin', beer-swillin', sheriff-dodgin', trouble-chasin' truckers. The Bandit's has taken on his craziest haul yet: a trailer full of Coors beer. If he can deliver the goods from Texarcana to Atlanta within forty-eight hours, he'll be eighty thousand dollars .. A rather random car chase movie, obviously the last of a short line.
After making this why did they think they could top it? the wrighters got it right here & should have stopped them making the 2nd & 3rd film
This film release coincided with the craze of CB radios (1-4 for a copy good buddy). As adolescents we rode about in our battered Cortinas talking in american radio jargon to complete strangers, keeping an eye out for smokey bears cos our 'rigs' weren't exactly legal like. Smokey & the bandit was our fantasy aspiration with 10 gallon hat, pontiac fire bird and a smokey hot on your trail. Sherrif Beuford 'T' Justice has been copied in many subsequent comedy's but this was the original classic. The cinema audience were all singing the theme tune & giving high fives as we walked home. Brill!!!!
Watched this movie many times and never get bored with it, Burt Reynolds in one of his best movies plays the Bandit.
Loads of laughs nd the movie ends with the out-takes (Always like a comedy move that shows these and sometimes they're more hilarious than the movie itself)
I'm not saying this is the case here though, Out-takes are always funny but the movie is still a classic comedy, Seemed to be lost slightly in the follow-up movie though.

A good old fashioned comedy with a fairly decent romantic background, high speed chases that would put some of our 'modern' movies to shame. Fred is the best character in the movie - look out for the skinny dip scene!

Very enjoyable film. Loads of car chases and the big bad sheriff chasing the Bandit through the countryside.

A smashing slice of escapism! Great car chases, sharp witty dialogue, and of course Sally Field - wow, I had forgotten just how cute and sexy that woman was!!
Rent it, watch it .. then go buy it!
Perfect film to get all nostalgic over. I'd forgotten how funny this was - Burt Reynolds when he was good! Lots of great lines from Sheriff Beaufort T Justice - fantastic. Great for a quiet night in.
I wanna Trans Am!
This film was a funny as I remember, a couple of cringe worthy jokes on the sexist/racist side, but remember the film was made in 1977 and you forgive the script a bit.
The driving scenes are still up there with the best, and the good ole county soundtrack is still fun and fresh - this was how the Dukes of Hazzard should have been done - Burt should have known better!
Rent the film, pull on your tight flares and enjoy the 70's fun.
A thoroughly enjoyable tomfoolery jape of a movie. I honestly didn't remember it as being as good as it is. Great cars too.
Ok so its not the best movie in the world, but, its still a film with some fun. The film does show its age. If your a CB'er then some of the jargon you will understand, if not, then you will do by the end of the film. I would rent this DVD but not buy.
