Dodging a job they refuse to discuss, a bunch of misfit workers in a large company treat the Smoking Room as a refuge from the cares of the day. They haven't much in common apart their shared love of nicotine, but most quirks and foibles are just about tolerated. Rank is unimportant, and it doesn't matter if you don't actually smoke, you're welcome in the Smoking Room. Some drop in briefly, some linger, and some take occasional "work breaks": there's the smoking room fixture with a passion for the postboy; the grouchy security guard; the thick-skinned office Romeo; the new mother - so dull that no-one noticed she'd bee on maternity leave; the divorcee enjoying a new adolescence; the self-centred emotional wreck, always scrounging cigarettes off her best friend who can't wait to leave; the crossword addict - who can't do crosswords; the terrifying boss who wants to be popular, and her long suffering PA, plus an assortment of other losers, neurotics and underachievers. Any old topic is up for discussion. From the mysteries of the Bible to the sexual allure of terrorists; from the plight of conjoined twins to the possible allergic properties of Jammy Dodgers. Just remember the golden rule. No Shop Talk!

Well observed, clever and so funny it should carry a health warning.
WHILE THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT LAUGH A MINUTE COMEDY, IT HAS ITS QUIETLY HUMOUR TINGED MOMENTS. ITS MORE OBSERVATION AND CHARACTOR DRIVEN HUMOUR THAN JOKE OR GAG ORIENTATED. WELL WORTH WATCHING IF THIS IS YOUR FORTE.
The show was slightly funny and different for the first episode. Then it all just got too boring and drab with few small laughs in between.
