[Highly rated reviewer]A trashy film really, with a slight hint of redemption thrown in. This is one of the Brian De Palma films that kind of doesn't have the epic sweep of the Untouchables, Carlito's Way or Scarface, and it's much more in the order of Body Double, Raising Cain or the all time classic best Travolta film (or at least a close second to Pulp Fiction) Blow Out ('Good Scream').
The usual De Palma elements are there- conspiracy, overpowering music score, a scene with escalators, big bosomed women and massively long tracking shots (have fun trying to spot the hidden cuts in the first scene). And although it's glossy and shallow I just like this for some reason.
I didn't get the thing about the ruby in the concrete at the very very end, but if you search google you will find some speculation.

Oh Dear.....By BennyC (1 review) , 20 Jul 2012Really pretty poor.. sorry to disagree with most of the other comments. Didn't engage with any of the characters, pretty boring as the whole movie is set in the same building, no real suspenseful plot as it's pretty obvious what the outcome is... Cage must have needed the money.
great filmBy alex2301 (177 reviews) from West Halton , 14 Nov 2011i loved this film -- it was great to watch on a saturday night
nicolas cage was the perfect actor for the job -- he plays the 'weird and wonderful' character really well and the film would not have been the same without him, and the twist at the end was just what the film needed
will def watch this again
Great FilmBy Sandi44 (98 reviews) from london , 16 Feb 2011I've seen this film more than once and is still great - You won't get tired watching it.
Nicolas Cage is brilliant in the leading role. Plus Gary Sinise is great playing the villain.
Interesting but lackingBy a customer from Farnborough , 16 Feb 2011This movie more or less kept your interest throughout, but it DID drag at times and could have been a lot more fast paced.
It is quite a good detective plot but I have seen a lot better.
3 stars for being interesting, but was definitely lacking something.
