A wild and tangled crime adventure involving gangsters, Irish gypsies, and a dog that can't stop swallowing things, SNATCH is both hilarious and action-packed. Jewel thief Franky Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro) is in London en route to New York, where he will deliver an 86-karat diamond to his boss, Avi (Dennis Farina). A compulsive gambler, Franky is tempted into an illegal boxing scam, becoming the unwitting suspect in a robbery committed by bumbling pawnshop owners Vinny (Robbie Gee), Sol (Lennie James), and their oaf-of-a-driver, Tyrone (Ade). Meanwhile, novice boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham), and his dim-witted partner, Tommy (Stephen Graham), move into the "big time" with twisted crime boss, Brick Top (Alan Ford), and Mickey, a mumbling, unhinged Irish gypsy boxer (Brad Pitt) and his band of travelling Pykies (including Paul O'Boyle as Paddy). Thrown into the proceedings are killers Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) and Boris the Blade (Rade Sherbedgia). A stylized work with a gritty urban soundtrack and a cast of intricately developed characters, SNATCH delivers superb and witty dialogue while depicting one of the more zany, complex diamond heists ever portrayed in film.

One would've thought that Guy Ritchie would have shied away from replicating Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels after the current glut of British gangster movies. Sadly not. Although Snatch has its merits — among them originality and the talents of Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro, and Jasons Statham and Flemyng — the diamond heist and East End mob plot are just more of the same. Gangs, cheeky chappies, bare-knuckle boxing and cameos from Vinnie Jones and Mike Reid merge into a seen it all before mix. Ritchie can direct, that's certain, but perhaps it's time he got someone else to write the material.
"...Mr. Ritchie seizes the bespoke machismo of British gangster movies and gives it an action picture's ferocity....[Mr. Pitt's] brio is a reminder of how adept he is at low comedy..."
Snatch is the fantastic follow up from director Guy Ritchie, he of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame. While Lock Stock was awesome, Snatch is even better. Ritchie obviously has a bigger budget second time round, and also pulls in bigger names, and this all adds to a brilliant film. Plot-wise, it's complex, with several groups of misfits all after one thing - a HUGE diamond. In one group we have Turkish and Tommy (Jason Statham and Stephen Graham), unlicensed boxing promoters who enlist the fighting skills of a brick hard gypsy named Mickey (Brad Pitt). Their problems begin when they get involved with a nasty piece of work gangster named Brick-Top (the brilliant Alan Ford), who has them running scared due to Mickey's insinstence of defying Brick-Tops rules every chance he gets.
Meanwhile, we have Cousin Avi (Dennis Farina), Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) and Doug the Head (Mike Reid) on the search. Cousin Avi is the ORIGINAL guy who's meant to get the diamond, but loses out when his partner in crime Frankie Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro) goes missing in London. Also along for the ride are Sol (Lennie James), Vinny (Robbie Gee) and Tyrone (Ade), who are probably the funniest group to watch seeing as they put a foot wrong at every turn!
The acting is wonderfully over the top, and the vicious one-liners and excessive bad language just make the film even better. I've watched this film time and time again to find any flaws in the complex plot but there aren't any, Richie has worked hard to get this just right.
There are some fantastic acting performances on offer here, especially Alan Ford, Stephen Graham, Brad Pitt, and the late great unforgettable Mike Reid.
Without doubt this is my all time favourite movie.
An unliscenced boxing promoter gets invloved in crime when he is asked to fix a fight. While all this goes on there is a heist involving a diamond, will things go smoothly as a fixed fight?
An okay movie with a good performance from Pitt as the boxer. Recommended if you like gangster movies.
Guy Ritchie is turning his back on directing gangster films - he's reportedly working on a movie musical. The star is well known for his crime projects such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. But he's set for a departure from the tried-and-tested genre and is working with movie hardman Jason Statham on a singing movie, according to The Sun newspaper. A source tells the publication, "Guy and Jason are collaborating closely on this top secret musical project. They're well into... Read more
