Great war 'fan type' film to watch, if you get the chance watch sniper 2 starring Tom Bergener (both films)

    Sniper 1992

A very clever film, great story, locations and cast. Should have left it there and not tried to make 2 & 3 but never the less this is good. Packed full of action and probably the first movie to tackle the art of SNIPING????

    Love this film!

Carling throught the undergrowth, taking your time, lining up for hours to get the right shot, with a partner who has lied to you and thinks he's great - Excellent.

Highly recommended and can't wait to see Sniper 2!

I remembered this film from the cinema in the early Nineties when some of the special effects used then were cutting edge.

Basically it is a buddy story where the cynical aging professional has to train the keen young cub in the ways of the warrior.

US Marine Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger) is at the peak of his trade as a 'dealer of death' sniper, when he is tasked to take out a rebel Panamanian General who is leading an army that would not represent the best interest of the USA in that country.

Richard Miller (Billy Zane) is a Washington DC SWAT Cop who is also an Olympic Shooting Champion. The men in grey suits at Langley pair up this dynamic duo for the task in hand.

The interplay between the two main characters is good, albeit that Beckett is very suspicious of Miller, who has to prove himself.

Whilst the plot and pace are a little stilted at times the suspense and interaction between the two protagonists saves this from being a mundane movie.

Indeed I believe it to be one of Tom Berenger's best portrayals in his mixed bag career of various anti-heroes and villains.

Well worth watching, a time capsule of a time before America became PC and a good forerunner to the excellent 'Clear and Present Danger' which also dealt will the life of the professional soldier assassin. Worth the mon...........!
