An outstanding performance from Tamara RojoBy Stanley Smith from Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. , 23 Jul 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]The story of Snow White and the seven dwarfs. The music is quite good although not in the class of Tchaikovsky .It is well worth seeing by ballet fans not least for the performance of Tamara Rojo as Snow White.
Superb work spoilt by recording qualityBy Viewmasterrobin (22 reviews) from Morpeth Northumberland , 18 Jan 2013This is a superb ballet with excellent music and an outstanding performance by Tamara Rojo. Much of the staging is also good with some excellent effects. However, it is somewhat spoilt by the poor visual quality of the DVD and some of the camera work. On several long-shots the artistes feet were cut off to the knees. I suspect this is a copy from an analogue tape (like VHS). The images are almost out of focus at times and indistinct (maybe modern digital recording has spoilt us all?).
What about the dwarves?By Kulturmonster (59 reviews) from Ipswich , 06 Sep 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]This is the issue when dealing with this story. We have all been indoctrinated by the Disney version showing the dwarves as cute and silly. So.... given there are seven of them, they take up a major part of the story. If you don't copy the Disney interpretation, what do you do with them? Unfortunately this ballet failed on this vital issue. It portrays the dwarves as regular guys, standard heroic athletic male dancers who of course have no interest in Snow White other than concern.... Sorry, but this just did not work for me. These days we expect interpretations of fairy tales to have more bite, depth and darkness, and this simply doesn't.
So old fashionedBy WestCountry (68 reviews) from Yeovil , 27 Oct 2010The start was not promising with an uninspiring overture.. The camera work is static and reminiscent of the Bolshoi 30 years ago. The corps de ballet opened the first scene and appeared to scurry around the stage and it did not improve much after that. I was not enamoured by the dancing or costume of Tamara Rojo.
It was dull and I could only watch it for 20 minutes
