Charlie Mackenzie (Mike Myers) is a love-shy 'poet' living in San Francisco, who frequents neighbourhood coffee houses reciting his tortured odes to unrequited love. Burned by a string of failed relationships, Mackenzie's fear of commitment has intensified into outrageous extremes of paranoia. When he finds himself falling for .. Read more

This hit-and-miss comedy was Mike Myers's first stab at flying solo from his Wayne's World partner Dana Carvey. He plays an aspiring poet who always manages to talk himself out of long-term relationships with women. All that seems to change when he falls madly in love with Nancy Travis, until evidence starts mounting that she may be a black widow who has left a trail of dead husbands in her wake. There are some nicely black comic moments, but Myers tries too hard and mugs shamelessly to the camera. The best performances come from supporting players Amanda Plummer, Brenda Fricker and, most notably, Anthony LaPaglia as his best friend. Ultimately, though, it fails to live up to the promise of the title.
"...It's a delightful and unexpected surprise....The comedy is a hip slice of life about the dilemma of martial commitment with just a pinch of Hitchcock providing the cutting edge..."
Myers (half of the Wayne's World duo) takes a giant step for nerdkind in this less than subtle Hitchcock spoof, which... read more on Time Out
What a fab film, even those who don't like myers work will like this riotous film which will keep you entertained until the very unexpected ending. Myers (Austin Powers, Wayne's World) is wonderful in the lead, as well as playing his own scottish father, and supported neatly by the beautiful Nancy Travis (The Vanishing). Not as silly as some might think this is a cleverly controled and contrived comedy. If you haven't seen this one yet you won't be disappointed! Contains Infrequent strong language, and some sexual references.
Make sure you see this film. A forgotten classic. Get this movie out and laugh all over again!
Mike Myers on top form. Brilliant
if you like Mike Myers (which I do) then you should enjoy this easy-going comedy. Definitely one of his best films with a nice twist to the end. We laughed a lot. (There again, we were all having a few drinks at the time...)

totally underated. very very funny film
You'll either love it or hate it but you must see it. Mike Myers at his very best in my opinion.
Good performance from Mike Myers. Few laugh out loud moments with a fun and slightly twisty storyline.
Enjoyable!
This is a perfect film to sit with your mrs and relax! Mike Myers as San Fran poet Charlie, the funny guy who cant hold down a relationship starts dating a girl who he suspects could be a famed Axe murderer who kills her new husbands on the honeymoon. Some great gags, memorable mostly for Myers also playing his crazy Scottish father famed for the mockery of his own son's huge head. Funny stuff!
Anyone who doesn't find this film funny needs to get a life. A great movie and Classic Mike Myers. This is a laugh from start to finish.

Slight and slightly amusing comedy, parodying Hitchcock with some sophistication and moderate success.
"...A welcome surprise....Includes a funny assortment of cameo performers..."
