From Brian Yuzna, producer of RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND comes this rather disturbing 1980s look at the horrors of the upper class. Young Billy (Billy Warlock) feels a certain strangeness enveloping him in his bourgeois suburban neighborhood. A little sleuthing reveals a secret society which thrives on cannibalism, incest, and the ability to do some rather otherworldly things during sex. An interesting and overlooked horror entry, SOCIETY features horrifying and memorable makeup effects.

A truly unique shocker, this mixture of social comment and splatter horror will definitely not be to everyone's taste. Is Bill Warlock just paranoid about his well-respected Beverly Hills family? Or do they really get up to unspeakable taboo-breaking orgies when he's not around? The answer involves a great deal of special make-up effects, including torso distortion, melting flesh, deviant gender blurring and surreal spectacle. Disturbing and silly in roughly equal amounts, this over-the-top exposé of what the rich are really doing to the poor, marked the directing debut of Brian Yuzna, whose credits as producer include 1985's Re-Animator and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
A bizarre fable that starts like a TV soap but soon darkens into a disturbing thriller about an idyllic Beverly Hills... read more on Time Out
We rented this film one night purely on the basis of the front cover and we thought it was wicked. I don't want to generalise but let's face it, If you usually rent films like 'Runaway Bride', 'The Horse whisperer' or 'Heathers' this one probably isn't for you. That's said if your open to seeing a bloke's face turn into an anus give it a go. After all, it's only a bit of fun.
This film is extremely simple to summarise. The first hour and 10 minutes is like watching an episode of Beverly Hills 90210.
Still here ? However, the last 20 minutes are unbelievably superb and I found it in many parts strangely erotic.
The purpose of Society is not to surprise you or make you jump in your chair. It brings out your most hidden social fears and sticks your nose in it. Incest, cannibalism, funny sexual habits, everything is aimed to revolt you. It sort of suceeds, but in a very funny kind of way.
NOT your average horror flick
