This film reunited Peter Sellers with the Boulting Brothers who had been responsible for one of his greatest screen triumphs, I'm All Right Jack. Alas Soft Beds, Hard Battles — an X-rated World War Two romp — was not in the same class. Sellers plays multiple roles (including Adolf Hitler) in a story of murder and duplicity set around a Parisian brothel in 1940. The production was reportedly dogged with problems and the cracks are all too evident in the finished film. Still, there are some flashes of the Sellers talent, but oh, so few.

A comedy very much of its time. Some typical digs at various cultural stereotypes, which are executed with pleasing English 70's humour, and a plot not too far removed from 'allo, allo'.
Sellers as always carries off the roles with impeccable charm and wit.
Worth a watch on a rainy day, but not one the top 100.
