Having thoroughly enjoyed Paul Verhoeven's 'Black Book', i was recommended this by a Dutch colleague.
Once you get past the slightly dated opening credits, it soon becomes part of the charm of a fantastic film.
A must see for anyone interested in life during ww2 beyond the battlefield fighting, it wraps you up in the precarious atmosphere of occupied Holland. Rutger Hauers' performance is first class as a character who gives the distinct impression would rather steer clear of any 'side-taking' but for whom siding with the nazi's could have been the safest option.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
