[Highly rated reviewer]this film is superb and stars James Purefoy as Solomon Kane. Other stars are Max von Sydow as Solomon's father Josiah, Rachel Hurd-Wood as the ethereal Meredith Crowthorn, Mackenzie Crook as Father Michael and Pete Postlethwaite as William Crowthorn.
Solomon Kane is a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth I fighting in Africa, but after an encounter with a demon called The Reaper, he realizes that because of his brutal and cruel actions he must seek redemption or have his soul sent to Hell.
He returns to England and lives a life of peace where he converts to puritanism, but soon the actions of an evil sorcerer upset his plans and he must take up arms again.
Solomon wanders the earth vanquishing evil in all of its vilest forms.

Not as good as Conan.By JudthoRaj (5 reviews) , 05 Dec 2013If you're looking for a film based on the works of Robert E. Howard, I think you'd be better off with Arnie's Barbarian or even Jason Momoa's. Not the Destroyer. This was disappointing but better than the Destroyer which is not saying much. Still, overall, not too bad. Just not as good as Conan.
A storyline that deepens.By Val777 (29 reviews) from Pudsey , 22 Nov 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideA film that starts out as a blood and guts adventure but then transforms into something a bit more thoughtful. A story of a fall from grace and an earned redemption. Well worth a watch.
shame kaneBy corkus (64 reviews) , 20 Sep 2013Like the lead actor in films, but was totally underwhelmed by this offering, slow, drab, lacking in any direction, shame i was looking foward to this movie.
Not as bad as you might thinkBy TheWatchman (749 reviews) from Suburbia , 16 Jul 2013I read another review on Solomon Kane and it described it as They way Van Helsing should have been, if it wasnt rubbish. Personally, I think thats a little unfair on Hugh Jackmans portrayal of the legendary vampire hunter, but, in some ways, I can see the reason behind it. Solomon Kane is a very similar beast. Its set in the middle ages in England and has a very familiar/Van Helsing-ish feel to it, i. e. you have the long haired man in black (complete with hat) fighting monsters (only Solomon has to contend with mainly demons and witches, rather than vamps and werewolves) while on a path to redemption. However, the one very noticeable difference is the budget. Van Helsing had one, Solomon Kane has less of one. Therefore theres less CGI special effects (some may say thats a bonus, based on the quality of Van Helsings) and less big action scenes. What you have instead is some gritty realism or as gritty and real as a film can be about slaying mythical creatures. Solomon Kane is basically Van Helsing, minus the budget, plus the gore. Its actually quite good, for what it is. Itll never be more than a cult hit, but if youre into sword and sorcery (and want to see the first hero ever who sports a West Country accent) then you can do worse than this.
Great Movie For Saturday Night.By Alexander-UK (128 reviews) , 28 Jun 2013Not sure how so many have given poor reviews on it. I thought it was a great watch from start to finish and of course it was unrealistic, it is the movies!. I really enjoyed it, lots of action and i enjoyed the storyline and thought Kane was fantastic. Would recommend for sure.
