One of the Top 10 Best Comedies of all time, and surprisingly at a time when cinema was in decline.By roncoach (370 reviews) from suffolk , 13 Dec 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]The magic 5 stars, for one of the best comedies ever made.
I would crawl on my hands and knees to watch any MM film but she stars in no other 5 Star film. This film shows her as the great screen comedienne that she was......and the fantastic power that she had in front of a camera. How did the scene of her singing ' I Wanna Be Loved By You' get past the censor of that era ? Wow.....
Curtis and Lemmon play their parts to perfection, though this is Marilyn's film. Billy Wilder shows all others how to direct a comedy film as it should be.
I read it a lot on these reviews but ' oh, why can't they make films like this anymore' ???? I use the same cliche myself sometimes, and this is one of those times.I usually find that I am referring to a 30s/40s film so it surprises me when I find myself using the cliche about a much later film. I wish there were more great surprises like this one.
When I watch a true classic like this ( or Casablanca or Gone With The Wind or It Happened One Night etc ), I cannot believe the tripe that is served up for today's audiences. Yes, there a great films made in every decade....
but they get rarer and rarer as the decades pass. Indeed, this film only just made it into the tail-end of an era when it could be made: The Golden Age usually means the 30s and 40s but this 1959 movie shows that the screen could be lit up even at that 'late' date. So why not in 2009 ??????
For those who have not seen this film, please watch it.....you are in for a complete escape from today's mediocrity : a journey to when the era of 'greats' was coming to an end....but this film is a true 'great' in any era.
Wonderful. The candle burned out long before the magic ever did...................

Some Like It HotBy a customer from TW12 , 16 Jul 2010An absolute classic, and just gets better with time.....! Classy, funny, and Marilyn Monroe is stunning! Enjoy if you haven't seen this....
almost perfectBy a customer from London , 18 Mar 2010I've not watched a lot of the classics and knew Monroe and Curtis were big draws however Jack Lemmon is absolutely immense in this fantastic film... the acting, direction and score are incredible... watch this film before you die....
Some Like It HotBy Jonquil (7 reviews) from Bristol , 10 Mar 2010One of the best films ever made (only the wooden performance of the Spats character, and the idea that it's perfectly safe to rehearse wind instruments in a moving train strike duff notes, for me). Monroe's dresses are quite scandalous, apparently having been just sort of laid over her rather than actually put on in any meaningful way, and for once her breathy little-girl persona is just what is required. Even though the idea of aspiring to marry a millionare is so old, the humour has barely dated and nothing can possibly top Jack Lemmon tango-ing away on his bed after a night of dancing. A complete and utter joy.
Greatest comedy film everBy a customer from London , 05 Mar 2010This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen, and even it just gets funnier with every viewing. I highly recommend this film!
