Interesting but abrupt...By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 26 Aug 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]Put director Shane Meadows and superb young actor Thomas Turgoose together and you can be forgiven for immediately thinking.. Brilliant... 'This England' all over again, a must see. Unfortunalely you may be slightly dissapointed. This new output covers a very current social trend (European Immigration) along with an age old situation (runaway teens in London), and is painted brilliantly in black and white, with superb performances throughout. The only problem is, there is a distinct lack of actual solid content and what there is seems to be a little old hat. Add to that a very abrupt and slightly implausible endpiece and despite the craft of the film, it just does not really satisfy, entertain or educate in the way we expected it to, worth a watch but only if you enjoy a director and cast who can craft a fine portrait on film rather than a whole story.

somers townBy a customer , 27 Apr 2011Another winner from shane meadows , this time a compassionate and warm inner city tale of friendship between 2 young lads , one the son of a polish migrant worker and the other a runaway from up north.
Its charming, affectionate, humourous and will make you smile .It tips its hat lovingly to classic french cinema here and there too .
Somers Town: another great performance from Thomas TurgooseBy a customer from London , 31 Jan 2011Great film, gentle pace, capturing a growing friendship between two vunerable, lonely boys.
Committed performances from both young actors.
Enjoyed this film.
Easy WatchBy a customer from Leeds , 19 Jan 2011Thought that its was good, a little short at just over an hour.
Funny story and de-picks life how it really is not like Hollywood films.
Gritty, simple but heart warming storyline.
Brilliant cheek with an effortless ring of truthBy RichPickings (167 reviews) from 'kin Bruges , 01 Nov 2010Fantastic head space to inhabit, even if it does belong to a short, northern, kid with a big gob. Obviously improvised and organically devised and all the better for it. Its a pleasure to spend time with nothing to lose and little to gain but a good laugh. Eye watering and ludicrous when the situations aren't making you wince instead.
slow time-wasterBy a customer from south coast ~ uk , 09 Aug 2010If you have an hour or so to kill then this film may fill that gap. nothing much happens ...but it has a charm about it. loved the subtle joke with the Arsenal football strip!
