Jim Carrey's 1994 hit The Mask gets a poor sequel courtesy of Cats & Dogs director Lawrence Guterman. This time, the magical Nordic relic falls into the hands of an aspiring cartoonist (Jamie Kennedy), who fathers a son while wearing it. The baby is born with all the literally eye-popping powers of Carrey's original character, turning his dad's world upside down with non-stop cartoon-type mayhem. Although the mixture of live action, special effects and animation demonstrates a certain crude imagination, the sequel can't touch its predecessor's dynamic visual style. In fact, every aspect of this risible comedy is sub-standard in comparison, from the casting to the frequent movie references. Even when sporting the Mask, Kennedy lacks charisma, while his singing and dancing infant looks downright creepy. Throw in an ineffectual villain (Alan Cumming, as the Norse god Loki) and the obligatory fart gag and you've got a barrel-scraping cash-in that feels more like a TV show than a Hollywood picture.
Loud, frantic and dismally unfunny farce that relies on computer-generated special effects rather than anything as hand-crafted as an original joke.
Lots of family fun
This is a great film my daughter loves it, as did I. She watches this and scooby doo constantly. So if you need something to occupy the kids this is certainly the film. If your expecting a jim carey 'mask' film then don't its got different actors in it. So expect the best that they will give you. I hate people that make comparisons to other films with different actors in.
MY son is three years old and even he knows what a bad movie is. I couldnt understand why this film was made. Its AWFUL, TERRIBLE, PURE TRASH, PAINFUL TO WATCH. There isnt anything I could put in this review thats a positive. Ah yes there is there`s an eject button on the dvd player. I would give it a zero but theres no option to do it. Have an enemy send this to him in the post.
This won't be bothering the Academy for best film but then want do you want from a movie designed for children? It seemed to be an entire picture built around a quite entertaining premise of staging Looney Tunes type situations using CGI. The afore mentioned computer assistance was average at best but animating a photo realistic baby is a daunting task. I don't want too condemn it or praise it, my kids enjoyed it and it wasn't too painful for me to endure. So 3 stars it is, right down the middle of the road!!!

not a patch on the original but none the less had the little lad laughing and provided a few giggles for myself as well.good family fun

I wouldn't say this is a bad film. However, I had to ask my girlfriend if I fell asleep before it finished because I couldn't remember a thing about it the following morning.
This really isn't a film to analyse or review. If you want to keep the kids happy for a few hours then they'll love this. It's got loads going on and it's bright and colourful and the physical humour is bound to have them in stitches. The effects are incredible and the baby looks almost too real sometimes.
There are references to the first film and other notable mentions include the Exorcist and Looney Tunes.
Unfortunately I held the original a little too close to my heart and I felt let down by this.
My kids thoroughly enjoyed this follow up to 'The Mask'.Loads of cartoonesque pranks & stunts throughout.Kept my four children aged 18m to 11 years well entertained. However if you dont really get the cartoon vibe thing then I would not rent this,go for a trainspotting type or something, lol!!
This gets my thumbs up!!
Well worth getting out for the kids as they never looked away from the screen.
Zanny whacky antics from our green faced friend.

Sorry guys, but this film stinks!
We put off watching it for a few days in favour of watching the fantastic 'Inside I'm Dancing', and out of boredom we put this film on and switched it off straight away, literally watching just 5 mins of it.
Not the film it's hyped up to be, although maybe it's one that kids will enjoy. Certainly as an adult I felt that this film had no worth and my partner and I decided that the boredom before watching the film, was far better than the boredom WHILST watching :o)
This movie was very good and funny ecspecially for Children ! very nice
The worst hour and a half I've ever spent in a movie theatre. An insult to the original with a supposed big-opening number that looks like it was thrown together by 6 year olds.
Utter garbage.
