Great performance from Streep
By McClennan (424 reviews) from St Helens , 07 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Some good cinematography coupled with an Oscar winning performance by Meryl Streep lifted this film from the mixed bag that it was. About a woman who survived a Nazi concentration camp, I found it to be more effective at getting across the horror of the holocaust than Schindler's List. It's not as good as the latter but Sophie's Choice definitely made a deeper mark on me and if you enjoy watching good acting performances, you can't go wrong with Streep's in this- Was this review helpful to you?

(72)Deeply moving without being melodramatic.
By MickeyA (2 reviews) , 24 Dec 2012Terrific performance by the Streep makes this well worth watching. The brutal and unnecessary cruelties of the Nazis would be unbelievable - if it were not based on fact! Not a feel good movie, but rather a powerful drama, disturbing and yet shot through with the happiness and love of the the human spirit.- Was this review helpful to you?

Probably my favourite film of all time.
By Bobsview (549 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 25 Mar 2012Unforgettable haunting classic, in one film embodies the blind hope and optimism of youth with the total insanity , and evil of the Nazis. I first watched this film over 25 years ago and it is one that never leaves you. An absolutely stunning performance by Meryl Streep. If you have never seen this film then you must but make sure you are in the mood for something very heavy, upsetting and shocking.- Was this review helpful to you?
