Head and shoulders above the competition.
This series is, in my opinion, just as brilliant as all the other series and I enjoyed it tremendously. I was a bit confused when I read the producers report that Series 6 was the last one. On looking at the website of the Sopranos, I see that there are more episodes to come in Series 6(maybe Series 6 part 2?) and ending with one called 'Made in America' which no doubt will give the Sopranos a proper kind of closure. Myself I would like it to go on and on.....
This is no understatement, there is no comparison. You have the gimmicky tricks of 24, the original beauty of Lost and the underrated brilliance of Rescue Me, but nothing can beat the quality of acting, writing and direction throughtout The Soprano's history.
The whole 6 series' of The Sopranos has probably been the most consistant TV writing since the television was invented. At no point has the quality of writing dipped. The Sopranos is as good as The Godfather trilogy, if not better which must rank it up there as possibly the greatest cultural invention of our time.
This is the show that broke new boundaries in TV, revolutionised a generation and paved the way in gold for the likes of Oz, The Shield and even shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Deadwood.
Put it into perspective - a handful of the episodes in Season 6 suprass Martin Scorcese's The Departed. I am a better man for having The Soprano's in my life.
