AWFUL film.don't waste your time......
its premise is :
all spanish women are all 'very accommodating'
spanish men are all stupid macho men
spanish priests are all womanising sex pests
all englishman are frigid,uptight frauds
you will not care an ounce about any of the characters and what happens to them.- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Interesting for fans of the book and of the Alpujarras he describesGood fior
By a customer , 29 Nov 2011I agree with the previous reviewer's that some of the assumptions in the film are questionable. However this film is based on the book of the same name by Gerald Brenan and it is widely understood that Brenan's version of his life in Yegen in the 1920's is economical with the truth, especially when describing his romantic and sexual encounters!
However, the film is truthful to his account at the very least and If you are familiar with the unique and ruggedly beautiful area of the Alpujarras in Spain where the book is set, or if you have an interest in the Bloomsbury group of which Brenan was a member - He had a brief, passionate affair with Dora Carrington played by Emma Thompson in the film of the same name- then this makes an evocative and enjoyable film.- Was this review helpful to you?
