Clint Eastwood teams up with some old friends to make SPACE COWBOYS, a rollicking motion picture that wraps action, comedy, and science fiction into one neat package. Eastwood plays Frank Corvin, a former air force pilot who was shunned from flying into space in 1958 after NASA was created. Forty years later, when a Russian satellite appears to be headed for a collision with Earth, Corvin finally gets his chance. He bribes his archrival Bob Gerson (James Cromwell) into letting his team go into space to repair the satellite, on the condition that they pass the physical. However, passing the physical isn't so easy for aging veterans Jerry O'Neil (Donald Sutherland), Tank Sullivan (James Garner), and Hawk Hawkins (Tommy Lee Jones), who, while still mentally sharp, aren't in the best of physical shape. Nonetheless, they manage to fill all the requirements. Ignoring the two cocky upstarts who have been sent along to back them up, the old-timers blast off and head straight for the satellite. But when they get there, the realization that the satellite is actually carrying six nuclear warheads changes the course of the mission, endangering the lives of the astronauts as well as the citizens of America. With exceptional special effects and a breezy tone, SPACE COWBOYS is one of Eastwood's most entertaining films to date.

Houston, we have another problem. But, unlike the factual Apollo 13, director/producer/star Clint Eastwood's self-deprecating and winningly indulgent cosmic adventure is a complete macho-fuelled fantasy set in the ultra-realistic world of Nasa operations today. With an irresistible premise — four geriatric astronauts finally get the chance to go into orbit 40 years after being sidelined by a monkey — this slice of gung-ho wish-fulfilment is an entertaining feel-good pleasure. Eastwood's Team Daedalus is called back into service because no other has the obsolete knowledge to prevent a Cold-War era Russian telecommunications satellite from crashing to Earth. There's absolutely no point in taking anything seriously in this hi-tech Peter Pan fable. Even the space-set climax, brilliantly constructed by Star Wars supremo George Lucas's company (Industrial Light and Magic) from actual photographs, space shuttle footage, miniatures and digital animation, lacks any real thrills or suspense because the outcome is obvious from the start. But Eastwood and his space-aged company shine as the ageing astronauts wheezing through basic training, navigating past feuds and becoming all-American heroes as co-stars Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and James Garner also reveal the right stuff as well as the true meaning of star charisma and career longevity.
Affable action movie that gives some familiar actors a chance to strut their stuff and play slightly comic variations on their usual roles.
As the title says - Good Old Boys ! This film has some of your old time hero's such as Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland in. It's a light hearted film, with comedy and romance thrown in for good measure. Not a blockbuster but a good sunday afternoon film to whisk the hours away. You can't beat the old school actors and they show in this film they have lost none of thier charm and carisma.
Enjoy :-)
We watched the first half of this and switched it off to watch the TV instead, as we found it boring.
I did come back to it, but it only succeeded in confirming that it is, indeed, slow, predictable and frankly something that could have been done a lot better, considering the calibre of the actors involved.
Not exactly a high point in Clint's career!
