(7)Space Race
By a customer from Crook , 08 Oct 2008I enjoy watching anything about NASA and the space race but this film was a little disappointing. I found it hard to keep watching, a bit slow in places but historically very good.- Was this review helpful to you?

Absolutely fascinating
By a customer from Warwickshire , 11 Mar 2007Both myself (who knew very little about the so called 'race for space') and my partner (who knows lots about it) thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. In fact we couldn't wait to get home and watch another episode of it!
It's a docu-drama (not usually my favourite format but this is really well done and has loads of original footage) made principally by the BBC but with help from American and Russian TV stations too so you get a fairly un-biased view. It's format is 4 x hour long episodes.
The acting is excellent and it's very informative but it's the rocket footage (both new and original) which will really inpsire and amaze you.
Absolutely awesome!- Was this review helpful to you?

inspiring and informative
By dave clarke from London, England , 14 Jan 2007This fascinating doco takes us back to the dawn of the rocket in the 1940's through the halcyon days of NASA and the Soviet Space Agency and thru the moon landings and beyond of the 60's and 70's.
This is an important historical epic.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant production but DVD quality bad
By SamFromMaidenhead (257 reviews) from Maidenhead , 15 Jul 2006What ever possessed the BBC to cram four one hour episodes onto one disc. The quality is worse than the terrestial broadcast shown on telly. That does not distract from the fact that the series is excellent. Limited by budget constraints the early days of the space race is brilliantly executed. It is only when the race enters the Apollo program does it suffer from the budgetary issues. The sense of huge scale that went into the construction of those rockets and the man-power involved is not really shown very well. The human drama between Von Braun and Korolev is handled very well and a tribute to Korolev, the unsung hero of the Russian Space administration. Essentially Space Race is more human drama than actual science docudrama. The acting and directing is good but it did feel a little rushed towards the end. The real criminial however is the BBC - come on - 2 discs please for anything longer than 3 hours !!!- Was this review helpful to you?
