An awesome series which is brutually honest and candid in its insight into Roman life back in the day when the gladiators where regarded as gods. Excellent acting, glorious production design and a heart-thumping narrative come together in an outstanding show which is a prequel to the just-as-brilliant 'Spartacus: Bllod & Sand'.

But be WARNED, nothing is left to imagination! Gratuitous violence, sex and language abound, but it is all in context. If you have an open mind you'll love it. However, if not, you may struggle to get past the first five minutes...!

An amazing series that holds nothing back. the show will constantly keep you entertained and make you come back for more. i would recommend watching Spartacus Blood and Sand before this series though to get the most potential out of this. If excessive gore and nudity is not for you then i would advise you to give this a miss but if not you will love it.

Very good show, well worth watching. Fan of history and the Roman era, read several novels and history books about Spartacus. Some may consider it over the top on the gore and nudity but then these were harsher times with brutal weapons when human life was valued in denarius rather than as we do now. Looking forward to the next series.

  • Pushing the boundaries of TV

This has to be one of the best productions made for TV, in the history of TV. If you think you will like it, I implore you to watch it - it really is outstanding entertainment. The script is fantastic, the fighting is excellent and the nakedness is all in context. Some of the fight scenes have got to be the most daring ever shown on TV - some of the 'injuries' and the way gladiators are 'finished off' are just breathtaking and have never been shown on TV before. I understand the gore is not for everyone but it is in context and shows the brutal way of life for a gladiator at the time. In many ways all three series of Spartacus are incredibly daring and for that we have to thank the writers and producers for pushing that boundary. I have to admit, I'll never know how realistic it all is (for definite) in terms of dialogue etc but what I do know is that this show and the two other Spartacus series are just incredible entertainment. They are expertly written (both in story-line and script), the acting is excellent, the characters are engaging (not to mention good looking!) - the whole thing is lavishly produced and is a joy to watch. It's one of those things you watch where you're sorry it's come to the end of the series. Just like The West Wing! (I bet the writers of Spartacus never thought they would be compared to The West Wing in a review!!)

If the story you're looking for is devoid of plot but full of nudity and gore, then this is for you and your psychiatrist
