Natasha Henstridge plays the dangerous spawn of combined alien and human DNA in this sexy sci-fi shocker from director Roger Donaldson. Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen and Alfred Molina are among the inept government scientists speaking daft dialogue as they attempt to track down the genetic engineering experiment gone awry before she devours half the male population of LA. Nifty designs by surrealist HR Giger (who gave the extraterrestrial in Alien its incredible look) and some engaging tongue-in-cheek thrills go part way to disguising the fact that this is essentially clichéd B-movie stuff, albeit delivered with a pleasingly glossy sheen.

Better than the sequel - not difficult mind you!

A classy cast including Alfred Molina, Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Marg Helgenberger & Natasha Henstridge help to make Species rise above it's essentially B-movie roots.

The film starts off very well, with some interesting ideas about contact with other planets and mankind's obsession with dabbling in genetic tampering. However, in the end this turns into one big bug hunt albeit a rather nicely done bug hunt.

The special effects are, for the time, very impressive and Natasha Hentridge looks incredible throughout.

Entertaining stuff, grab a six pack and a pizza, kick back and enjoy....

    Enjoyable Sci-fi

Fairly average sci-fi alien chase. Interesting slant on the all too common alien attack on earth scenario.

Worth watching for a couple of reasons - both attached to its principal star Natasha Henstridge!

    Enjoyable hooey

Weak plotline, gory horror, gratuitous nudity - great!

    Laughable

Nudity is the only thing this film has to offer. The special effects on the original series of Star Trek (the Kirk/Spock one) were more convincing than the lumps of coloured rubber used in this laughable garbage.

Brilliant Sci-Fi that breaks the Norm

My wife and I thought the movie was sexy and good fun with some scary parts. It does break free of the usual in that this alien blends into our society before killing those who mate with it! Looking forward to seeing the sequels 2 + 3

    Brilliant Extras

Worth a look at how they did it and other cast items. Blends well with the film

    Nice Idea

I like si-fi concepts. It's nice to see something that explores something a bit different. I felt that they missed a few bits out about the rather sketchy signal from space but then perhaps I should have got the extras disc.

    What a classic!

This is a great film from start to finish with a great story line all the way through. This is a must see if you like sci-fi.

    Enjoyable Sci-Fi

Really enjoyed this movie, although I have to say that Natasha Henstridge makes it all worth while.

Gripping, Edge of the seat stuff!

Enjoyable, fast-moving science-fiction thriller; it offers nothing new but presents a familiar tale with some style.

  • "...Gripping....An effective thrill machine, delivering action and suspense that should engage all viewers..."
