MI5 - not 9 to 5By John-James Worrall from Warrington , 06 Nov 2003
[Highly rated reviewer]If you have not seen this top class British production yet, put it on your list now. While it doen't have the gloss of a US show such as 24, it more than makes up for it with strong topical storylines and gutsy script. Measured perfomances ensure that the show stays believable.
It takes guts for a show with so many good performers to kill one of its star names off mid series, but Spooks does this and justifies every second.
There is not a week episode of this show, and you will be gripped by the final images ensuring that you place and advance order for the second series.

no menu to show how to get it to runBy booktig (8 reviews) , 30 Nov 2013so far have spent ages getting it to run and eventually accidently got episode 1 to work. gave up on getting episode 2 altogether! now I find out how to do it I will have another go! but I thought there were 6 episodes on the one disc?
Excellent SeriesBy a customer , 20 Mar 2013Spooks is an excellent series in all respects. It is well acted out by those concerned, especially by Matthew MacFadyen and Keeley Hawes. The story lines were different, well written and, for me at least, fairly authentic. What I really like about Spooks is how quickly the story progresses. There is none of this complicated and unnecessary trivia that seems to be written into a script to prolong a movie. Spooks is to the point and lets the viewer know by subtitle where the action is happening ... brilliant ... that is what we need! Bold, blunt and to the point. I can't wait for my next disc ... why I missed it on the television first time round I shall never know.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideWe got through the first two episodes on the first disc (fighting with the hugely irritating menu like so many before us) and found they were moderately entertaining, although the chip-fryer incident left me nauseated and I'd rather not have that in my head! Then came episode 3 and the plot line was just pathetic. Whoever heard of a swift code unlocking bank details of hundreds of people?! It was completely laughable and got more and more lame as the episode went on. We gave up at the end of that one. Sent the disc back and deleted the rest. Not sure how everyone else managed to get past that without choking but we felt we'd wasted enough time on it!
Started well, but...By Tomosan (41 reviews) from Hindhead , 14 Nov 2012From early promise break to new levels of soapy crapness! The first few episodes were actually quite entertaining. And, although a little far fetched in places, bore all the hallmarks of a cracking series. Sadly, so soon after the first few episodes, the writers lost their nerve and diluted the series into 'just another soap opera' -- with an MI5 theme. Soon the audience was faced with yet another program of shallow, dull, uninteresting characters that leap from one personal crisis to another whilst simultaneously keeping the nation safe from a folly of baddies! Whereas, at the beginning, the plots showed some genuine spontaneity, they soon became telegraphed, predictable and in many cases, laughably unrealistic; demonstrating what could, at best, be described as a flimsy grasp of current affairs.
Complicated MenuBy Browntown (1 review) , 26 Aug 2012I have to leave a review just because I didn't get the menu at all! I now know the 6 episodes are spread over 3 discs, I spent about 30 minutes trying to find episodde 3 on disc 1. The 2 episodes are found by using the direction pad on your remote and choosing the CD rack.
Spooks itself is fab and very gripping, I don't know why I haven't watched it before.
