Watching this series on TV, I was horrified to see that BBC producers have stooped to the level of cheap US-style state-sponsored propaganda. Spooks used to be a fun, light hearted programme, sensitive about its subject matter with the enemies fictional, such as 'Shining Dawn'. Oh Shining Dawn.
In this latest series, however, the apparent enemy is Iran, Iran, Iran, Arabs, Arabs, Arabs. Recall the political climate at the time this programme was aired. It's insensitive, belligerent and quite poor on the part of the BBC to be pumping out such trash. The French also get quite a bashing too. Has Spooks been handed over to an American producer?
The portrayal of Iranians in this series is on par with Nazi wartime anti-Jewish propaganda. If they'd gone that tiny step further, the Iranians in the show would have long sharp claws and blood dripping from their mouths. Seriously guys, Mel Gibson gets hauled over the coals for such antics, why should the BBC not be worried about this?
By the way, I'm not Iranian, Arab or Muslim. I just think it's shockingly irresponsible for the BBC to be dragging the name and reputation of a single country through the mud when so much is at stake politically.
Watch with an open mind.
brillant start to this new series,I throughly enjoyed the spy stuff and look forward to seeing the rest of the series.
