Sports Night is not about sports, but the production of a nightly sports news show. It follows the talent and crew as they interact professionally and personally, and it's brilliant, witty, and stirring. It will break your heart that it didn't last.
This was the best show on television in America -- period. Despite its critical acclaim and die-hard fan following, Sports Night got canceled. This is what happens to comedies in my country that don't cater to the lowest common denominator.
Felicity Huffman, now of Desperate Housewives fame, stars. Series was a labor of love for writer Aaron Sorkin, who then moved on to do 'The West Wing.'

(4)trailer put me off....so boring!
By a customer from New Malden , 19 Oct 2010Wanted to rent this, as I love Aaron Sorkin's work...and have watched every West Wing. However, the trailer was almost entirely made up of an American football match, and I couldn't see how it was going to translate into a witty programme.
Decided against renting on strength of boring trailer.- Was this review helpful to you?

Quality shines through
By a customer from Grassington, Yorkshire , 15 Sep 2006Its not about the sports. Imagine Drop The Dead Donkey but smarter, funnier and with a budget. Sadly this was another casualty of the policies of American Networks which cancel too many good shows early. Almost everybody involved in this show went on to prove how good they were in other projects
The creator Aaron Sorkin went on to multiple Emmy winning success with 'The West Wing'. The two lead stars were Felicity Huffman, now a Desperate Housewife and Peter Krause who headed the cast of uber successful drama 'Six Feet Under'. William H. Macy has a regular role. The rest of the cast are of equal caliber and are almost all instantly recognisable.
The characters are far more rounded than most US offerings being more than a simple label or single trait. The dialogue is sharp and funny but with genuine depth behind it. Above all it assumes the audience has a brain and doesn't resort to bathroom humour for the laughs.
Its a shame that the suits killed this off so soon- Was this review helpful to you?

Can't wait!
By Cath from Coventry, UK , 17 Feb 2006I've been watching this show on ABC1 and am eagerly awaiting the UK DVD release so I can watch it properly. It's very recognisable as an Aaron Sorkin project - you can spot his West Wing fast dialogue and occasional preachiness!
Felicity Huffman is my favourite Desperate Housewife and is great here. The other stars are also excellent - nice to see Robert Guillame(don't think I spelt that right!) from Benson and Soap.
Very well written, great characters and a fabulous cast. Roll on that DVD release!- Was this review helpful to you?
