Good solid filmBy daytripper2k (12 reviews) , 15 Jun 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]After seeing an advanced preview of this film. I have decided to fill in some details that you need to know before going to see this film. Due to the fact when I told my mate its a vampire film he thought twig light
The type of film is horror vampire, not twilight. The vampires are the bad guys and they dont twinkle in the light. The world is gritty, everyone doesnt take their shirt off at a moments notice and no one looks like they spend all day in the gym.
So this film is a road/survival/coming of age film. Following the journey of two as they head to a promise land of Eden to escape the vampires and be safe.
This isnt a closet monster film so no jumps.
The film is solid in story, acting and well shot. There is a missed beat towards the end where the film starts to sneak into big bad territory like say blade but that is short lived.
One thing that I found to be a bit of a mistake on the part of the story was, mister is supposed to be a hard nut that kills vampires. Due to this he gets recognition and respect. However all through the film you see mobs of civilians (and another group) manhandling vampires like animals. So if anyone can manhandle them why is he held is so much regard.
all in all a lot better than daybreakers

Twilight, it is not - good it isBy TheWatchman (745 reviews) from Suburbia , 27 Nov 2012Cast aside any notion of nice, pretty-boys twinkling vampires and replace them with old school vampy monsters, more akin to zombies with snarling, distorted faces and a distinct inability in dying (properly, you understand). However, despite being an unashamed monster movie, Stake Land feels surprisingly subdued for a recent horror film. With its melancholic tone, ravaging of the religious right and focus on characters over action, the film succeeds in being a bit more thoughtful than many of its contemporaries. With fairly few jumps or scenes that are likely to scare a grizzled horror fan, Stake Land is easier to recommend for its realistic world-building, mournful soundtrack and interesting, well-drawn characters.
As a boy Martin was orphaned when his whole family was eaten by a vampire, but he survived by being taken under the wing of enigmatic father figure and teacher, Mister. The film goes on at an unusually slow pace and painstakingly constructs a very authentic feeling vision of post-apocalyptic America. Guarded communities living in fear while supplies dwindle, drinking and sleeping together in packed bars until the sun rises and religious nuts taking over the wilderness to rape and murder as they please.
The film is most memorable for its details of life after the vampires take over. The small communities that have popped up round the country feel realistic and lived in. A sense of community, as if the vampire apocalypse may help America return to a simpler, more caring time.
Stake Land is a very well made film and can be enjoyed as a simple horror film but also as an experience of a post-apocalyptic society and the highs and lows of living in a world with a drastically reduce population.
Don't bother wasting your time.....By Treenybobs (19 reviews) , 26 Nov 2012This film is trying to do what other films have already done ,only this film doesnt do it anywhere near as well, read some reviews and liked the sound of this film but was very disappointed. The only advice i can give is....dont bother!
One to annoy the mainstream?By Platospupil (206 reviews) , 17 Nov 2012Super little horror flick this. Lots to recommend it - including some surprising, non-Hollywood breaks from the formalism of the genre. Not the best thing on sticks but still well worth a watch.
Abosulte and utter kerrrrrraaappppp!!!!By a customer , 13 Nov 2012Awful gratuitous violence. I like a good horror film, but this was dreadful. Utterly, utterly awful. Little wonder that not even the star of the film could bear to watch it. She was probably more embarrassed than anything else. She must have been very desperate to make this film.
