The third STAR TREK series concerns Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), commander of the starship Deep Space Nine, who discovers the first known stable wormhole--a virtual shortcut through space that leads from the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant on the other side of the galaxy. The Gamma Quadrant is governed by the Dominion, a group led by the Changelings--an group of shapeshifters which counts DS9 crew member Odo (Rene Auberjonois) among its numbers. This is where the series started to pick up on the Dominion and the Founders. The arc's began here.
Great cast, great writing, great effects.
Simply Great.
I missed this on tv, and so have seen it now for the first time on dvd. The frst two series was pure sci-fi, the characters were all there in embryo, but they lacked the depth which series three is beginning to give them. Reading the other reviews suggests that this improvement continues, and I am only sad in the knowledge that the drawback of watching a series on dvd after it is all over on tv is that you know which series will be the last, and when it will all be over. It sort of spoils the fun.
