There are no real surprises in this ponderous journey to the final frontier, in which Admiral Kirk hijacks the starship Enterprise to help in the rejuvenation of the deceased Spock on the planet Genesis. It's a good character-driven story, marred by Leonard Nimoy's workmanlike direction, a pseudo-mystical ending and an all-pervasive funereal tone that permeates every frame. Amazing special effects supply the wonder and emotional charge missing from what is, in essence, nothing more than a bloated TV episode.
"...Gung-ho spirit....[Cast and crew] all seem to believe wholeheartedly in the STAR TREK saga...[and it] goes a long way toward making the material touching..."
"...An emotionally satisfying science fiction adventure..."
The search for spock follows on from the Wraith of Khan following Kirk and the Enterprise crew stealing the ship and travelling back to Genesis to rescue their fallen comrade.
Not the best of the original cast Star Trek Films, however not the worst (Star Trek Five). Does however manage to pull it off with moments like the thief of the Enterprise and the punch up between Kirk and the Klingon commander (Christopher Lloydd). Would recommend to anyone who is a vivid fan of the original series.
This is the middle film of the 2,3 and 4 trilogy which go so well together. The birth of a new planet is very well realised on the screen and is done with true cinematic grandeur. The luxuriant look and original storylining of these earlier Strek films is a breath of fresh air after some of the claustrophobic and self-congratulatory stuff we get in the later films.
Probably the best Trek film ever & it was directed by Leonard Nimoy.

I thought that this film was rather sweet and that the special effects were light years better than those from the original series. I also liked the fact that there was no mawkish romance. However, I think you have to be a Star Trek to fully appreciate it.

Fantastic Star Trek film - I welled up when Kirk said 'The Klingon b*****d killed my son'. This is what Star Trek is all about.

I remember this as one of the poorer Star Trek movies (the old odd-numbered curse) but actually having just watched it soon after ST II-The Wrath Of Khan it's actually pretty good. Not much Spock (obviously) but it has some great moments for McCoy, Scotty and Sulu and a good punch up for Kirk at the end. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it so I can't tell you what happens but there is a moment when William Shatner really HAS to act and he rises to the task magnificently. He conveys the shock and pain his character would be feeling perfectly. He's utterly believable and it's a genuinely moving scene. So if your memories of this ST movie are that it's not so good - try it again maybe you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I was. My 11 year old daughter loved it too!
Before i start, I'm a life long trek fan. There is a saying that the even numbered Star Trek films are the best, and this proves the theory. It's the 2nd in the Star Trek 'trilogy' storyline, but not as good as the Wrath of Khan or The Voyage Home. I dont know why.....but it didnt really 'grap' me. It has the usual crew, plus Christopher Lloyd as a great Klingon, but just misses the mark a bit. I think it's because it doesn't really have a 'second storyline', that distracts you a little, it 'does what it says on the tin', it's just the 'Search for Spock'.
The Search for Spock continues where Star Trek II left off and provides a solid middle episode to the three movie arc started in ST II and completed in ST IV and is a good installement in the movie franchise, there is plenty of action but not on the scale of the previous film. It sucessfuly continues the story and sets the stage for Star Trek IV perfectly (ST IV being probably one of the most sucesfull films in the entire franchise), there are some nice character moments and the destruction of the entrprise looks superb. all in all a good film.
trekkies will love this
this film has aged a bit.but still good if u like star trek

Very silly, empty and unamusing follow-up.
